On-Demand Buys Australia’s First Océ ColorStream 3500 Inkjets

On-Demand Print, one of Melbourne’s largest digital print companies, will expand its services into transactional printing, with the purchase of the first Océ ColorStream 3500 high speed inkjet printer sold in Australia.

Owner of On-Demand, Bruce Peddlesden, said the new machine would also boost the company’s publishing services, powering high speed colour output.

The Océ ColorStream 3500 system is a twin engine model printing which has been upgraded from 75 meters per minute to 100 ppm with a print width of 540 mm allowing more than 1000 A4-size ppm with average volumes up to 12 million A4 pages per month at 600 x 600 dpi resolution.

Peddlesden said On-Demand has been looking at the possibilities of inkjet for more than six months and was impressed by the Océ ColorStream 3500 when he saw it Océ’s Open House in Poing, Germany, recently.

“Our publishing services have been outgrowing our current capabilities and inkjet will boost them considerably,” he said. “At the same time, we have a large variable data clientele and the ColorStream 3500 will enable us to expand these services into full transactional printing.

“We were also drawn to the system’s flexibility, with its ability to switch between full colour mode and black and white.

“Obviously it’s a big investment for us and it’s our intention to hit the ground running when the system is delivered to us early in October. We are planning a launch function in November to introduce our customers to the new equipment.“

The new printer will be connected to On-Demand using the company's Océ PRISMA software. Océ PRISMAprepare prepress software will also used.

On-Demand has been an Océ customer for many years with a fleet of five Océ VarioPrint 6250 black and white perfecting presses.

“Océ has been the mainstay of our black and white operations and we have enjoyed a good, lasting relationship with them,” Peddlesden says.

The Océ ColorStream 3500 offers productivity and flexibility for high-speed colour and monochrome production of transaction, transpromo, direct mail, book and manual applications with the reliability, print quality and media range associated with DigiDot technology. With optional multilevel dot modulation, crisp details and smooth halftones can be produced with 1200x1200 dpi quality at full rated speed.

It provides a modular offering in various single and twin configurations. The flexible Océ ColorStream 3500 system allows users to adapt the printing mode to match their pace of transition to colour.

A full-colour Océ ColorStream 3500 can be set up as monochrome-only system when needed. The production and media flexibility contributes to a future-proof system that simplifies the transition of applications and business models to more sophisticated documents with variable personalisation and smarter communication in colour.
