New Extension of Océ ColorStream Continuous Feed Digital Press Combines Color Productivity with Benchmark Monochrome Speed Up to 1,515 PPM

New Extension of Océ ColorStream Continuous Feed Digital Press Combines Color Productivity with Benchmark Monochrome Speed Up to 1,515 PPM

Printing professionals gain efficiency for mixed color and monochrome environments

September 10, 2009 – Chicago – Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, announces a significant increase in monochrome productivity for the Océ ColorStream™ family of continuous feed digital printing presses. The new Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex digital press delivers the fastest toner-based, color-capable black and white productivity in the market, with up to 1,515 letter-size (1,425 A4) prints per minute (ppm). As a color press, the 172-ppm Océ ColorStream system powers through over five million full-color, letter-size prints a month.

The newest release encompasses high speed monochrome printing for the Océ ColorStream family and further enhances the overall flexibility of the line. The Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex product family provides Océ Job Appropriate Color® technology to ensure customers can choose the best color capabilities for their business needs, without overinvesting. Commercial printers, direct mail services, in-house printers and datacenters benefit from the highest productivity along with the appropriate color and quality for a wide range of applications, all from a single, upgradeable system.

Print operations can take on jobs that weren't previously affordable or even possible on just one system. For example, users can print the first few pages of a document in color and the next 50 pages in black and white. With the ability to mix color and monochrome pages in one run, printers can extend their application variety with a single, straightforward workflow. The innovative Océ ColorStream digital press automatically adapts speed and costs within one job according to the application’s color use.

"Océ has already established a strong presence in the production color market with the successful introductions of the toner-based Océ ColorStream family and the inkjet Océ JetStream® family. The latest addition of high speed black and white capabilities round out the Océ ColorStream family as a versatile platform featuring multiple configurations to match many requirements. Customers gain the consistency of a solid core technology and the versatility to grow that platform to meet different needs and emerging opportunities," said Mal Baboyian, President, Océ North America, Production Printing Systems division.

To maximize return on investment, print operations demand flexibility from their equipment, and the new Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex system offers a solution for the range of requirements encountered in today's market. Some operations face a moderate increase in color workload, but still need the productivity of a high quality continuous feed printing system for heavy monochrome volumes. The Océ ColorStream platform is designed to support these mixed environments. Customers investing in a monochrome system today can also easily grow into additional color capabilities when necessary.

"A surprising number of customers still produce a large volume of their workload in monochrome, and they look for a solution that can secure their business now and give them a future as they move into color," said Mr. Baboyian. "For those customers, Océ combines both benchmark black and white speed with continuous feed color productivity, all switchable with a click."

Key Applications: Transaction, Direct Mail and Books
The Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex system can print on a wide range of paper stocks and is supported by two front-end systems to address the widest variety of customer requirements. Océ PRISMAproduction® workflow software provides extensive capabilities especially in AFP-driven operations, while the new Océ PRISMAcolorworks™ software enabled by Creo® Color Server technology features easy-to-use graphic arts functionality for enhancing pre-press work, along with excellent connectivity into traditional printing environments.

In the transactional printing market, the Océ ColorStream system allows customers to grow into color incrementally at their own pace, without compromising existing job requirements and budgets. With Océ CustomTone® spot color toner, print providers can add corporate colors to invoices and statements as the first step, and then expand to full color TransPromo communications. In keeping its commitment to full investment protection, all installed Océ ColorStream products will be field upgradeable to the new Océ ColorStream systems.

In the direct mail market, print providers can take advantage of Océ Job Appropriate Color technology to offer their customers the most appropriate choices for their business goals. The Océ ColorStream system brings the direct mail market maximum monochrome productivity combined with premium color printing for special mailing applications. This positions print providers for a wide range of direct mail business opportunities.

The Océ ColorStream system is the ultimate machine for mixed color and monochrome job environments found in many markets. Many books and manuals consist of either spot color or a small number of full color pages, applications that are perfectly supported by the printer's dynamic versatility and productivity. For customers in book and manual printing and other segments of the graphic arts market, Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex system offers distinct advantages, including near perfect front-to-back print registration and the ability to print on ultra-lightweight stocks (24# offset), giving it a place in the pharmaceutical industry.

The new monochrome high-speed extension of the Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex system will be available Spring 2010.
