Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra System Receives Coveted "Highly Recommended" Honor from Buyers Lab

Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra System Receives Coveted "Highly Recommended" Honor from Buyers Lab

Excellent results achieved during four months of rigorous testing

October 3, 2010 – Chicago, IL – Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, announced that the Océ VarioPrint® 6320 Ultra digital perfecting system has received the coveted "Highly Recommended" honor from Buyers Lab, Inc. The system was rated "Excellent" in reliability, media handling, productivity, ease of use, and preflight and job preparation.

"We are extremely pleased to be recognized again for the Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra system. Since its introduction, the Océ VarioPrint 6000 family has received numerous awards, and the most recent recognition from Buyers Lab validates the reputation and broad acceptance of this breakthrough technology in the marketplace," said Eric DeGoeijen, Vice President, Marketing, Océ North America, Production Printing Systems.

The four months of testing included a 10-million-impression durability test on the Océ Gemini Instant Duplex engine and two days of intensive productivity and image quality analysis on the Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra system at Océ NV headquarters in Venlo, Netherlands. Based on the impressive performance over the extended test period, coupled with an extensive array of workflow solutions and design elements that minimize errors, BLI highly recommends the Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra system for production environments.

Power and reliability for production environments
"The results of this rigorous testing demonstrate that the Océ VarioPrint 6000 platform is ideally suited for today's production environments for all types of applications, from graphic arts to transaction and transpromo to digital book publishing," said David Sweetnam, European Lab and Research Manager, BLI International (UK) Limited. "During the course of our evaluation, the Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra system proved to be highly productive, with throughput speed and quality remaining constant, regardless of media and job type."

The Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra system is the flagship in the series of black and white production devices utilizing patented Océ Gemini instant duplex printing technology, which images both sides of the paper simultaneously. The Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra model is the fastest in the family of products, delivering maximum throughput speeds of 153 letter impressions per minute in simplex mode and 306 impressions per minute in duplex mode.

As a key strength, the report noted that with the implementation of a new design modification, the printer could achieve a service interval of just one call per 2.5 million impressions, a clear indication of outstanding system reliability. Other strengths and functionality cited in the report include:
  • Near-Perfect front-to-back registration without requiring manual adjustments.
  • Océ Screenpoint Technology provides innovative image enhancement capabilities via intelligent, controls. Contrast and brightness can be adjusted with minimal loss of detail in the light and dark image areas, avoiding the traditional quality issues of blowing out highlights and filling in the shadows. Océ Screenpoint Technology also offers color to grey conversion optimized for digital monochrome printing, and SuperCell technology creates 245 grey values at 180lpi.
  • With Océ PaperLogic capability, all types media are loaded according to the desired output document stacking orientation. This limits the potential for media-loading confusion, ensuring fewer jobs need to be restarted, hence promoting maximum productivity and minimal waste.
  • The Temporary Speed License (TSL) option for 171ipm and 200ipm models allows users to upgrade the speed of their device on demand to the 250ipm rate for multiple 30-day periods.
  • Océ DPLinkTM, Océ DPConnect® and Océ DPConvert® workflow applications provide integration into and migration from legacy Xerox RDO production environments. Océ KDKLinkTM software provides integration into legacy Kodak® SmartBoard 5.0 (KDK) production environments.
Speed maintained across all types of media
BLI was especially impressed by the device's ability to maintain engine speed when combining heavyweight and lightweight media and when merging coated with uncoated media, two workflows that commonly cause significant slowdown in production devices due to the need for adjustments to fuser temperature and pressure.

During BLI's two-day test period, analysts ran over 163,000 impressions on media ranging from 60gsm to 300gsm including coated and uncoated stocks, with no jams or misfeeds. Nor did any misfeeds occur in BLI's accelerated media switching test, in which 200gsm, 60gsm and A4 tab stock are switched a total of 2,584 times over the course of an uninterrupted hour-long print run. This tests the device's ability to handle extreme media changes.

Simple paper path dramatically reduces misfeeds
With its single-pass duplex system, "the Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra system has the simplest paper path of all models in the marketplace," according to the BLI study. This was evident during BLI's extensive 10-million-page test, in which the unit proved to be highly reliable, experiencing a misfeed rate of just one per 333,333 impressions. In addition, not a single job from the wide array of complex production-class jobs was produced incorrectly. The Océ paper jam recovery system reduces the need for operators to come into contact with the engine's inner workings. Not a single sheet of paper had to be removed from the engine module unit over the entire course of the 10-million-impression test.

Attendees can see various Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra demonstrations at Océ Booth 1217 at Graph Expo.
