Compart DocBridge Delta Helps CompuMail Information Services Ease Transition of Thousands of Templates to New Composition Tool

Resulting deployment flexibility demonstrates Compart “digital co-existence” focus

 April 20, 2010 – Boston, MA – When collection letter specialists CompuMail Information Services transitioned to a new composition tool, Compart’s DocBridge Delta software saved time and helped CompuMail Information Services quickly and accurately compare thousands of document versions.

CompuMail Information Services prints and mails up to a million or more personalized collection letters daily for several hundred clients in the collection industry. Collection agencies send CompuMail Information Services a daily file with names, address and amount owed, and this information is applied to letter templates.

When CompuMail Information Services migrated to the new composition tool, they had to ensure the rebuilt output from the new application was error free and that the templates matched. The DocBridge Delta comparison tool allows CompuMail Information Services to compare each page without having to manually print and visually examine every line. 

Document Differences Quickly Identified

DocBridge Delta compares two files and produces a PDF document that lets users immediately see all differences between output from the old and new systems. For example, they can quickly catch and correct a wrong logo, font changes, copy drift, font size, and margin inconsistencies.

Migrating Over 1,000 Templates

Each of CompuMail Information Services’ clients has up to 200 templates to be migrated to the new platform. Without DocBridge Delta, the job would be a very lengthy, tedious and error-prone process.

Customer service representatives do most of the template building and modifying, and they are currently the main users of DocBridge Delta. In addition, the tool helps CompuMail Information Services programmers replace old barcodes and embed the new Intelligent Mail Barcode into clients’ letters. DocBridge Delta ensures nothing else in the letter changes.

How DocBridge Delta Works

When files are not identical at the bit level, it is difficult to determine if the content and layout of the file is identical across versions, even when they have the exact same file size and name. DocBridge Delta provides the ability to do global checks combined with detailed intra-page comparisons that include font, text, color and graphics checking.  Additionally, it provides tolerances and “ignore” areas, making the compare results immediately useful. 

In addition to the iteration and regression testing use case at CompuMail Information Services, DocBridge Delta provides the means to address document compliance requirements, document lifecycle checks (i.e. that what goes into the archive is what comes out) while also taking cycles out of new application workflow.
