Jürgen Herbott appointed new Chief Executive Officer of Beta Systems Software AG

Berlin, July 16, 2010 – The Supervisory Board of Beta Systems Software AG (BSS, ISIN DE0005224406) made the decision in its meeting today to appoint Jürgen Herbott (51) as the new Chief Executive Officer of Beta Systems Software AG on July 19, 2010. in addition, the Supervisory Board renewed the contract of Gernot Sagl (41), Chief Financial Officer, in the same meeting.

Jürgen Herbott has more than 25 years of experience working in the IT industry, gathered first and foremost in large corporations in the software sector. Before joining Beta Systems, Mr. Herbott, who holds a degree in business administration, was Vice President Central Europe at Torex Retail Solutions. Prior to this, he headed up the Central European organizations of Hyperion Solutions and Siebel Systems and worked in a number of different sales and management functions at IBM. Here he took over the building up and expansion of Tivoli’s software business in the capacity of director, was branch manager in Saarbruecken, and division director of all activities in the utility companies segment.

Jürgen Herbott, the new Chief Executive Officer, added: "I am delighted to be able to contribute my know-how and experience to a company which is as well positioned as Beta Systems and to support it in the implementation of its Buy & Build innovation strategy. With its high-end solutions in the IT infrastructure business, Beta Systems occupies an excellent position in the market and has a large number of renowned companies as its long-standing customers. This is a very good platform for expanding the company’s position as one of the few independent mid-sized software and technology suppliers in Europe in this segment, both in the domestic and international arena.

Background information on Jürgen Herbott Jürgen Herbott, who is 51 and holds a degree in business administration, began his career as a system consultant at IBM specialized in mainframe technology and subsequently assumed responsibility for sales to major IBM customers in the civil service sector. Following a short period when he worked in the Management Support Team, specifically in the introduction of new software license agreements at IBM, Jürgen Herbott took his first job in management as sales manager and then as branch manager for IBM in Saarbruecken. Following the implementation of a sector-oriented sales organization at IBM, he became division director and, as such, was responsible for all activities of IBM in the utility companies industry in Central Europe. In the wake of IBM’s acquisition of system management specialist Tivoli Systems, he was entrusted with building up and expanding this software business and, within a short space of time, was successful in establishing Tivoli as a leading system management solution for centralized and decentralized IT structures in the market.

Upon the takeover of Siebel Systems, a company focusing on CRM (Customer Relationship Management), he gained additional experience in application software and here also succeeded in establishing the company as a market leader. Close cooperation with the sales and marketing departments of Siebel customers gave him the opportunity of familiarizing himself with different sales structures and approaches.

His next management position took him to Hyperion Solutions, a leading supplier of BPM (Business Performance Management) solutions supporting companies in defining, assessing and implementing corporate strategies with the aid of software solutions. These tasks also allowed him to gain insights into a wide variety of management methodologies applied in numerous companies. Upon the takeover of Hyperion by Oracle, he was put in charge of the integration process of Hyperion into the business organization of Oracle.

Jürgen Herbott’s last position was at the retail specialist company Torex Retail Solutions in Berlin where he held the position of Vice President Central Europe responsible for all activities in this area. The scope of his tasks encompassed also major software development and support for the software solutions on offer.
