Xplor Central Chapter Scholarship Awarded

Xplor Central Chapter Scholarship Awarded at Ryerson University’s School of Graphic Communications Management (GCM) Annual Student Awards Night

TORONTO – December 12, 2011 – Xplor Canada Association today announced Alicia D’Souza as the winner of the Xplor Central Chapter Scholarship, valued at $1000. Xplor is the community of choice for education, information sharing and networking that continually strives to meet the needs of our members and to provide leadership to the evolution of the document systems industry.

Ryerson's School of Graphic Communications Management (GCM) held its annual Student Awards Night on November 2, 2011. Awards went out to over 60 GCM students from first through fourth year, based on their work in the last academic year.

“The award was given to an exemplary student in a higher learning program at the Ryerson GCM, who is now pursuing studies at the Master's level,” said Dennis Quon, President, Xplor Canada Association. “It's interesting to see that the GCM program is now 3/4 dominated by young women, which will change the face of both printing and the graphic and transactional document world. “

“I am a first year student in the Master of Professional Communication program at Ryerson University,” declared Alicia D’Souza, recipient of this year’s award. “I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals and dreams, just as you have helped me.”

The printing industries are Canada’s fourth-largest manufacturing employer: an $11 Billion dollar industry with 60,000 employees working in more than 4,000 different establishments, according to Statistics Canada.

“The Xplor Central Chapter Scholarship, and other industry awards, communicates strong industry support and encouragement to students in our field,” said Ian Baitz, Chair of GCM. “The financial component of your award helps students meet tuition obligations, without having to work an excessive number of hours outside of class.”

As Canada’s only degree program for the printing industries, GCM graduates enjoy outstanding internship and career opportunities across the country. This is the second year that Xplor Canada has offered this scholarship. The Xplor scholarship was presented by Mr. Michael Sutton, President, Xplor Central Chapter.
