Xerox,
Omtool Provide Secure Document Solution
to Help Insurers Address Regulatory Requirements
ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19,
2003--Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) and Omtool, Ltd., a Xerox Premier
Business Partner, have combined their technology and expertise to
provide systems and services that help insurance companies, agents and
carriers address regulatory requirements related to the secure
exchange of documents.
The Xerox and Omtool solution enables
people to scan hardcopy documents while simultaneously delivering the
information to pre-selected e-mail, secure e-mail, fax and remote
printer destinations via Xerox's digital multifunction systems
equipped with Omtool's AccuRoute software. Insurance applications
sent by an agent to a carrier can be converted to PDF® and encrypted
at the point of scan, then routed to multiple locations while
conforming to the electronic transmission requirements in regulations
such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA),
Sarbanes-Oxley Act and Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.
Combining the scanning capabilities of
Xerox's Document Centre and WorkCentre® Pro systems with the
e-delivery features of AccuRoute results in quicker application
processing, handling and service times. Also, hardcopy documents can
be preserved and archived centrally into Xerox DocuShare® or other
document management systems.
"The first step to addressing the
challenges around regulatory compliance is to assess our clients'
complete document flow," said Julie Dorey, vice president,
Insurance and Financial Services, Xerox Global Services. "We then
recommend solutions that deal with regulatory requirements as well as
ones that simplify and accelerate the entire application cycle
time."
"Businesses demand instant access
to critical documents," said Michael Sheehy, vice president of
worldwide sales and marketing, Omtool. "Through our partnership
with Xerox, we can serve the changing needs of the insurance industry
and respond with technology that conforms to regulatory requirements
and streamlines workflows to reduce costs."
