New NAPL Book Demystifies Management Information System Installation

In Business Growth Through Effective MIS, Gregory S. D’Amico, Ph.D., guides industry executives through MIS implementation and explores MIS business benefits.

East Rutherford, N.J. (January 24, 2013)—
The National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL) has just released Business Growth Through Effective MIS by Gregory S. D’Amico, Ph.D. In the new book, his third for NAPL, Dr. D’Amico helps smooth the management information system installation process for industry executives and operations managers while exploring the many real business benefits a management information system (MIS) can offer.

The graphic communications industry runs on data—printing files, mailing lists, marketing outreach and response media, customer files, and internal production and billing information. The sophisticated systems that can manage this flow of data, organize it, and distribute it among company departments and information stakeholders are powerful tools for customer satisfaction, business growth, and profitability. But the ability of an MIS to touch every aspect of a company’s workflow and business processes can also make developing and implementing an MIS a complex, time-consuming, and costly exercise.

As printing industry authority and Kean University professor Dr. D’Amico guides the reader through each step of the MIS installation process, he points out any potential problems and offers results-based solutions. He also explains the ways in which an MIS can be leveraged to help companies exploit new business opportunities, enhance competitiveness in existing markets, enter new service areas, and improve operational effectiveness.  The new book is generously sponsored by EFI.

“Dr. Greg D’Amico’s latest book will be an important addition to any industry executive’s management library,” says NAPL President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph P. Truncale, Ph.D. “It provides real-world answers to handling the complex data issues today’s printing company leaders must deal with every day. It is filled with insights and guidance based on an extensive study of the best business research on the topic—research which, in turn, has been carried out through surveys and follow-up interviews with frontline industry companies that have experience, both positive and negative, in the actual implementation of multifaceted management information systems.”

Dr. D’Amico also includes conclusions based on his own research on the subject, including interviews with a number of industry experts whose wide-ranging experience in graphic communications is reflected in their own comments, presented as short essays that conclude many of the book’s chapters. Among the topics covered in the new volume:

  • MIS Planning and Execution: Developing a fully integrated MIS and successful MIS implementation.
  • MIS Applications and Benefits: Data mining and CRM, gaining a competitive advantage, and sales force automation.
  • MIS Options and Opportunities: Building global alliances and MIS security management.
Business Growth through Effective MIS (NP413), a 121- page trade paperback, is available exclusively from NAPL for $39.95 (NAPL/NAQP members, $29.95). Go to www.napl.org and select “Store” to order online, or call (800) 642- 6275, Ext. 6324 or Ext. 6345.
