ON DEMAND Conference & Expo 2007
NEWTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Questex Media Group, Inc. today launched an attendee portal for registered attendees of the AIIM and ON DEMAND Conferences & Expos, the largest enterprise IT event combined with the pre-eminent digital printing event in North America. The portal helps attendees prepare for the events efficiently, so they can make maximum use of their time and get the most out of their show attendance. The AIIM and ON DEMAND Conferences & Expos are scheduled to take place April 16-19, 2007 at the Boston Convention & Exposition Center.
The Social Networking/Communication Tool allows attendees to communicate with each other and exhibitors before the events. This tool provides a quick and easy way to help attendees network and schedule meetings. Attendees can find new business contacts or re-connect with colleagues by using the flexible search engine. They can also search the registration database by demographic interest, company name or colleague name.
The Agenda/Briefcase Tool allows attendees to build and print a personal agenda of conference sessions and exhibitors to visit onsite. The tool is broken down into two sections. The “My Exhibits” feature allows attendees to create a list of exhibitors, including booth numbers they plan to visit on the Expo floor. Using the “My Schedule” feature, attendees can select the conference sessions they want to attend and can also set up personal appointments on their calendar.
”This portal allows attendees to truly make the most of their time onsite. We recognize they have limited time away from the office, so we are offering it as a way to help them get organized so that they see the vendors and attend the conference sessions of most interest to them,” said Christina Condos, Group Show Director, Questex Media Group. “Ultimately, it helps attendees take a more proactive role in completing their technology purchases.”
Registered attendees and exhibitors interested in the Social Networking/Communication Tool can go to http://www.aiimexpo.com/aiimexpo2007/v42/index.cvn?ID=10124 for more information and to begin networking.

Compart and Its Partners Highlight the PDF/A Archiving Format on Its Stand at AIIM On Demand
On stand 1865 during this year’s AIIM On Demand, Compart, together with three partners will present PDF/A as its main theme. All four companies are members of the PDF/A Competence Center, of which callas software, Compart Systemhaus and PDF Tools are founding members. The companies will highlight solutions based on PDF, a document format standardized by ISO for long-term archiving. Compart will also feature new products based on the Specification of the AFP Consortium (AFPC). In the meantime Compart’s DocBridge products for large volume, high throughput document processing all support the PDF/A format. Documents originating from a wide variety of sources and formats including AFP, PCL, Metacode, LCDS, the SAP-List formats ALF and OTF, Linemode, Notes and Office documents can all be converted by DocBridge products to the PDF/A archiving format. The following partners will be on the stand demonstrating their PDF/A capable products:
callas software GmbH:
callas software GmbH, founded by Olaf Drümmer in 1995 and headquartered in Berlin (Germany), specializes in developing powerful PDF verification and correction tools for its world-wide customer base. Adobe Acrobat plug-ins, command-line tools and programming libraries provided by callas software check, correct, color-convert, and optimize PDF files for printing, online publishing, document management, and archiving. The PDF tools from callas software stand out for their reliability, ease of use and simple integration into existing workflows, while also providing high throughput and flexibility. callas software has been delivering PDF verification technology to Adobe Systems since 2002. (www.callassoftware.com)
PDF Tools AG:
PDF Tools AG will be demonstrating their complete family of PDF/A compliant products at this year's AIIM-On Demand exhibition. The tools support the creation, conversion, validation, digital signing, display and printing of PDF/A documents in accordance with the international standard ISO 19005-1. These products can be used to ensure that archived files are reproducible in the future. In addition, PDF Tools AG offers a complete family of PDF/A compliant tools for software developers, contractors, IT specialists, and OEM partners. (www.pdf-tools.com)
Zen Systems Inc.:
Zen Systems is a leading ADF systems integrator. It is introducing the 'Enterprise Resource Manager' - an easy to use tool to get a handle on your print operations' resource usage. With its unique visualization technique, the tool offers a comprehensive view of the enterprise print operation's resources independent of the print format. The Enterprise Resource Manager offers a unique view of resources used in a print operation's production jobs. Resources from transaction based printstreams in AFP, Metacode, DJDE/LCDS and PDF format can be collected, summarized and organized into a database for later retrieval, querying and reporting. (www.zensys.com)
PDF/A Competence Center:
PDF/A is the ISO 19005 standard for long-term archiving in PDF format. It comprises a limited variant of PDF - a standard profile for using PDF in long-term archiving. The standard specifies in detail what type of content is allowed and what is not. This and other specifications are intended to ensure the long-term readability of documents regardless of the application software and operating system in which they were originally produced. Experts predict that the designation of PDF/A as an ISO standard will promote the popularity of the format, and advantages such as full text search capabilities will lead to it replacing TIFF in the near future. The PDF/A Competence Center was established as an international association in September 2006. The objective of the association is to promote the worldwide exchange of information and experience in the field of long-term archiving in accordance with ISO 19005 (PDF/A). (www.pdfa.org)
AFP Consortium:
The AFP Consortium was created out of the AFP Color Consortium after IBM had given it the right to specify all future AFP formats. All significant suppliers of products based on the AFP format, including Compart Systemhaus are represented in the AFP Consortium. AFP Consortium Update at AIIM/OnDemand
Are you currently using or considering adopting Advanced Function Presentation (AFP) technology for your document production? If you are and will be attending the upcoming AIIM/OnDemand Conference, you are invited Wednesday, April 18 to an update session hosted by the AFP Consortium. Presented in the conference's Product Showcase Theater from 4:15 to 4:45 pm, speakers from participating companies will talk about the work of the Consortium, give an update on recent developments and future directions and discuss the value of AFP and its role in today's complex document landscape.
Originally formed in 2004 to develop color management capabilities in AFP, the Consortium has expanded the scope of its focus to include the entire architecture, making AFP a truly open standard. Contributors from over 30 key vendors in the digital document space bring a cross-domain perspective to the architectural design. Developments in the architecture find their way into features and capabilities in the printers, servers, composition engines and other components that make up an integrated AFP system.
"Every year, AFP-based technologies reliably deliver billions of pages worldwide and are the backbone of many of today's business critical document production workflows. One of our goals as a Consortium is to ensure the architecture supports the requirements of these evolving environments while at the same time preserving the investment customers have made in the technologies," said Tim Lynn, member of the Consortium's Board of Directors. "With AFP moving to an open standard and, considering the high level of cooperation within the Consortium, these investments in AFP technology will pay off for a long time to come."

RSA’s Enterprise Workflow System™ is the Key to Convergence for Data Center and Network Printing
Rochester, NY, April 11th, 2007 – At the upcoming AIIM / OnDemand tradeshow for the Print Industry in Boston, Rochester Software Associates, Inc. (RSA) will be formally launching their Enterprise Workflow System. While this is a new offering, technically, the Enterprise Workflow System is the result of years of development and consulting. Indeed, RSA has been addressing the complex workflow needs of enterprises, large and small, through a combination of software and professional services, since 1986.
Legacy data stream transform solutions such as M.I.S. Print™ and IPDSPrint™ have enabled enterprises to consolidate Data Center Transactional printing side-by-side with their publishing and network printing. To drive even more volume to the more efficient, centralized print center, RSA has delivered WebCRD™ and QDirect.SCAN™ for reliable job submission from PCs, Mac, and the Web, as well as hardcopy via Multi-Function Devices. Additional tools such as BatesPrint™ and CDPrint™, make today’s production printers more efficient. And QDirect™, RSA’s Enterprise Output Manager acts as the traffic cop for the enterprise workflow, manipulating and routing jobs as desired. Now, all of these components are available under the umbrella of RSA’s Enterprise Workflow System.
“The Enterprise Workflow System really evolved from our customer base,” observed Tim Kelly, RSA’s Senior Vice President. “Our products are designed to meet the particular needs of enterprise customers. In fact, it’s quite common to have an RSA customer running multiple RSA solutions throughout their enterprise. They might want to move transactional printing from the Data Center to more efficient printers in the Print Center, so they would acquire M.I.S. Print. When customers realize that they can eliminate expensive leases on connectivity hardware by installing our Mainframe Downloader software solution for TCP/IP printing, that decision pays for itself almost immediately. Soon, because so much volume is being generated, they find a need to manage the output with QDirect. So the Enterprise Workflow System is really the culmination of responding to customer input and observing buying decisions.”
“The Enterprise Workflow System also includes WebCRD and QDirect.SCAN,” noted Todd Bernhard, Director of Marketing at RSA. “These products complement each other, enabling job submission and electronic ticketing via the web or supported Multi-Function Devices, respectively. Customers appreciate that these products work together, and are supported by a single vendor with a proven track record.”
One such customer is Phil Larson, Assistant Vice President and Director of ISD Enterprise Operations at American Fidelity. Mr. Larson will be speaking at AIIM / OnDemand on Tuesday, April 17th, 3-4pm in room PSP4 on the topic of “Web to Print”. American Fidelity is one of those customers that acquired different RSA workflow solutions over time, to address multiple needs of his enterprise, one of the nation’s largest privately-held insurance institutions. American Fidelity first became an RSA customer through M.I.S. Print, to convert mainframe LCDS data streams to PostScript suitable for output on any modern Production Printer. Later came QDirect to enable enterprise-wide management of all output. American Fidelity also acquired WebCRD for web-based submission, document archiving and re-ordering. Mr. Larson’s presentation will discuss how his enterprise’s profits increased by literally millions of dollars through the application of tools including RSA’s Enterprise Workflow System. “We have a lot going on,” Larson notes, “but RSA has just been phenomenal. We spent a lot of time looking and I've gotten everything I thought I was going to get—and that can be rare.”
The newest additions to the Enterprise Workflow System include PadPrint™ and VIPP Print™, both being introduced at AIIM / OnDemand. PadPrint is a Xerox exclusive that enhances the capabilities of a Xerox 4110 Copier/Printer or Xerox 4590 Copier/Printer. PadPrint is an integrated feature on the printer console that essentially “un-collates” copies, making it a simple process to generate pads of forms or handouts with slip-sheets, a feature often use in the education market. VIPP Print adds to RSA’s roster of legacy data stream transform solutions, by taking Variable-data Intelligent PostScript PrintWare (VIPP) and converting it to PostScript for output on production printers.
RSA’s successful Portal to the Print Center, WebCRD, is also getting some enhancements for the enterprise. With the Production Dashboard, Print Center Managers can, at-a-glance, keep tabs on their operation including paper stock supply and demand. Enterprises like American Fidelity depend on WebCRD every day, so to keep the system running at full speed, Production Dashboard will be invaluable.
“Smart enterprises are always looking for a competitive advantage, that extra edge that helps them win,” observed Bernhard. “It’s a happy coincidence that On Demand coincides with the Boston Marathon this year. After all, RSA’s marketing theme is based on competitive sports and our excellence in multiple disciplines, much like a Decathlon contestant. Visitors to the RSA booth (#509) can even play a “Race 2 RSA” Flash game to win prizes such as a Nintendo Wii!”

New KODAK Solution Lets Consumers Scan a Lifetime of Memories
KODAK s1220 Photo Scanning System Turns Old Photos into Digital Files, CDs, DVDs, Gift Items
BOSTON, April 16—Leveraging off the award-winning KODAK i1220 Scanner’s performance is the new in-store scanning solution on display this week at the 2007 AIIM ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition that allows consumers to turn a shoebox of photos into custom CDs, DVDs, or online uploads for use in creating other photographic and digital imaging products.
The KODAK s1220 Photo Scanning System lets users feed black-and-white and color prints for batch scanning and includes associated software to capture the photos and perform simple enhancements such as sharpening or red-eye reduction. Aimed at retail countertop services, the solution provides fast 30 picture-per-minute scans, is easy to use and requires little counter space.
“Businesses are not alone in their efforts to convert vital documents and images to digital files,” said Lois Powell, Director of Capture Solutions, Document Imaging, Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group. “This solution provides an easy way for consumers to recapture and to share some of the most important moments of their lives with family and friends.”
During the past year, Kodak has conducted consumer research as well as a number of market trials with retailers to gauge demand for the service. Consumers responded favorably – and so has at least one group of retailers to potentially serve them. Powell said that the Independent Photo Imagers (IPI) trade association has ordered 150 of the i1220 Scanners for its membership to use in similar applications. IPI members own more than 730 storefront locations across the U.S., Mexico, and Australia.
The KODAK s1220 Photo Scanning System will debut in July with an expected price to U.S. retailers at $2,495. The new system is backed by KODAK Service & Support, the benchmark service provider for the document imaging industry, named Best Support Organization in the 2006 International Business Awards.

Two new color presses, a new digital front end and roll feeding are now offered
BOSTON, April 16—With the industry’s most powerful portfolio of color presses, workflow systems and service expertise, Kodak makes it easy for print providers to choose the best technology and solutions for increasing revenue potential, enhancing productivity, and delivering outstanding quality. New additions to the KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Color Platform deliver on that promise.
Kodak announces the addition of two new KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Color Presses, the latest version of the KODAK NEXSTATION Front End, and a new roll feeder option to the NEXPRESS platform of color presses. There are now five digital color presses with varying specifications on the NEXPRESS platform, with each driven by the common, scaleable NEXSTATION front end.
The NEXPRESS presses benefit from Kodak’s Unified Workflow solutions and the unparalleled Operator Replaceable Component product architecture, which enables printers to take control of their print operations. KODAK MARKETMOVER Business Development Services provide an expanded range of innovative tools, resources, and support to enable NEXPRESS press customers to maximize their return on investment in new technologies and achieve dynamic business growth.
“Expanding the NEXPRESS platform of digital color printing solutions enables customers to enter the digital printing market and expand their digital printing business by selecting the NEXPRESS press that meets their current business needs and sets them on a course for growth,” said James Langley, President, Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group, and Senior Vice President, Eastman Kodak Company. “By extending the KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Color Platform, we’re helping customers develop the ideal digital printing solution for their unique volume, performance, speed, and application requirements.”
Two New Presses
The NEXPRESS digital color platform now extends from a mid-level press to a series of increasingly higher volume presses. The KODAK NEXPRESS M700 Digital Color Press, launching at the 2007 ON DEMAND Exposition, appeals to print providers who want to profitably enter the digital printing business with short run color, web to print, and variable data print capabilities. The NEXPRESS M700 digital color press offers customers the security to migrate to higher volume presses and features as they grow their businesses.
The four color press runs at 70 pages per minute for the full range of supported substrate types (coated, uncoated, synthetics, and selected offset paper) and weights (64-300 gsm). Targeted monthly print volumes range from 50,000 to 150,000 A4 pages. The NEXPRESS M700 digital color press allows simplex and perfecting modes to run at machine rated speed.
It produces output with excellent quality text and graphics, high density, a wide color gamut and high resolution (1200 x 1200 dpi). The combination of wax based dry ink and a dual fusing system yields high impact documents across a wide range of applications that include marketing collateral, direct mail, photos books and business documents.
The NEXPRESS M700 digital color press handles mixed media from five paper feeders accommodating a sheet capacity of 6,000, and delivers output to a high capacity delivery system that holds 6,000 sheets. The M700 will be available in the United States and Canada at this time.
Kodak also introduces the KODAK NEXPRESS S3000 Digital Production Color Press as the new high end production press in the NEXPRESS platform. Customers have an easy path for growth within the NEXPRESS platform, from the mid-level NEXPRESS M700 digital color press to the KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 Plus, 2500 and S3000 Digital Production Color Presses.
The NEXPRESS S3000 digital production color press produces 3,000 A3 sheets per hour, or 100 A4 pages per minute, for the full range of supported substrate types (coated, uncoated, synthetics, standard offset paper and selected packaging board and textured paper) and weights (60-350 gsm). Maximum sheet capacity totals 11,000 with targeted monthly print volumes of 450,000 or more.
Customers wishing to take advantage of the speed of this new production digital color press can purchase a new NEXPRESS 2500 press now with an available upgrade option to the speed of the NEXPRESS S3000 press. The upgrade will be available for installation at the same time the S3000 systems are available. The NEXPRESS S3000 digital production color press is scheduled for availability in October 2007.
The KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 Plus, 2500, and S3000 Digital Color Production Color Presses address customers with the most demanding productivity and volume requirements. These systems also offer the optional GATF InterTech Award-winning KODAK NEXPRESS Fifth Imaging Unit, which enables a wide range of unique applications by providing a wider color gamut, clear ink capabilities for security, watermarking, or protection, as well as a very appealing and cost effective high gloss finish when used in conjunction with the glosser unit.
KODAK NEXPRESS Production Presses are ideally suited to meet the needs of customers alternating between offset and digital environments because they provide an open workflow, outstanding color matching capabilities, and the broadest range of offset substrate compatibility.
Latest Digital Front End
The KODAK NEXSTATION V Front End and KODAK NEXSTATION System Software Version 9.0 comprise a new operating control system that increases uptime and improves productivity of NEXPRESS presses. The NEXSTATION front end as part of the KODAK Unified Workflow Solutions integrates with KODAK PRINERGY Workflow Systems and other leading workflow management systems. The open architecture makes job acceptance easier and reduces errors by using standard file formats and job ticketing information (PS, PDF, JDF, VDX/PPML).
NEXSTATION V front end with NEXSTATION system software version 9.0 is one of the first workflow systems to include the new ADOBE PDF Print Engine for improved, native capability for processing documents with complex transparency features. In addition, support is now provided for ADOBE ACROBAT 8.0 PDF files.
NEXTSTATION system software version 9.0 running on the KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 Plus, 2500 and S3000 Systems can work with KODAK COLORFLOW Technology to control, communicate and confirm that the intended color has been achieved and can be consistently reproduced across multiple devices.
New Roll Feeder Option
The roll feeder from Lasermax Roll Systems is a productivity enhancer for KODAK NEXPRESS 2500 and S3000 Digital Production Color Presses. The inline roll feeder can save time, money and labor by providing up to 60,000 A4 sheets per roll for hours of uninterrupted operation. It increases the efficiency of transactional, book production, direct mail and other high volume workflows. The choice of front or rear feeding options provides great flexibility in site layout.
Proven Business Development
To help customers drive top line growth and maximize their return on investment with NEXPRESS presses, KODAK MARKETMOVER Business Development Services provide innovative sales and marketing support. KODAK MARKETMOVER Services combine an expert team of professionals, extensive resources, and a vast suite of services, including the KODAK MARKETMOVER Network, to help customers achieve dynamic business growth.

The addition of two new presses, a new digital front end, and new roll feeding capability to the existing powerful lineup of digital printing solutions from Kodak makes it easy for print providers to choose the best technology and solutions to increase their revenue potential, enhance their productivity and deliver outstanding quality products to their customers.
“First time and established digital print providers now have more opportunities to grow their businesses with the expanded NEXPRESS digital color platform by adding services, enhancing productivity, controlling costs and maximizing investments,” said Langley.

Xerox Launches 15 Offerings For Offices And Print Shops; Strengthens Digital Leadership
More new products introduced year to date than in all of 2006; Services business grows at Universal, Owens Corning, Convergys
BOSTON, 17 April 2007 -- From the office to the print shop, Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) today bolstered every part of its business with 15 new and enhanced products, all designed to spur growth, productivity and efficiency in the on-demand printing and document management market. The company also demonstrated how its growing services business is delivering results for major companies like Universal, Owens Corning and Convergys Corporation.
"At the end of last year, we committed to bring more products to market in 2007 than we did in 2006. With today's roll-out, we've already delivered on that promise - within the first four months of the year," said Ursula Burns, president, Xerox Corporation. "Our unrelenting push in digital printing and consulting keeps us at the forefront of the digital document revolution, and there's more to come."
To help print providers capture growth opportunities, Xerox launched a range of offerings for the production printing market - from high volume to light production. The Xerox Nuvera™ EA Digital Production System and Xerox Nuvera 288 Digital Perfecting System further strengthen the company's high-volume black-and-white printing portfolio; new digital copier/printers target the growing light production space; and additions to Xerox's industry-leading color family deliver high image quality at an economical price. New workflow software is available to streamline the printing process from start to finish. In addition, Xerox continues to power the adoption of color in the office with several new DocuColor™ and WorkCentre™ color multifunction systems. These systems are built on an open software platform to increase efficiency and security.
"Xerox's announcements are more than just point products like a printer or piece of software. The company continues to position itself as a strategic business partner, helping its customers solve business problems. This is positively impacting both customers' and Xerox's bottom lines," said Angele Boyd, group vice president, Imaging/Output and Document Solutions, IDC, a global market intelligence firm. She added, "Recent moves including acquisitions and increased focus on channel partnerships put Xerox in front of more customers with more offerings, providing additional opportunity for growth."
Xerox also announced consulting services and software work with:
- Universal - Working with Universal Pictures in Hollywood, Xerox deployed its DocuShare™ enterprise content management software to help improve the way movie scripts and screenplays are submitted, routed, reviewed, and stored. Thousands of scripts have been managed using the secure DocuShare repository, making it easier for reviewers to collaborate and post comments online.
- Owens Corning - Xerox Global Services deployed a marketing portal that helped the company improve customer response rates from 2 percent to 19 percent, maintain global brand consistency, and increase dealer loyalty.
- Convergys Corporation, a provider of outsourced customer care, human resource, and billing services - Xerox is using its document management expertise to help improve service levels and productivity, while its office and production technology are being leveraged throughout the company.
From mass to light production
Xerox revamped its entire black-and-white production printing line to help print providers tackle complex print jobs and grow revenue. New offerings include the Xerox Nuvera EA Digital Production System, which uses Xerox's energy-efficient Emulsion Aggregation Toner, enables buyers to design a model to fit their needs, and surpasses the reliability standard set by Xerox's DocuTech™ systems. The Xerox Nuvera 288 Digital Perfecting System, based on patented tandem-engine architecture, has also officially launched. Among the additions to Xerox's portfolio are:
- The Xerox 4595™ Digital Copier/Printer, a 95 page-per-minute model that gives customers a new entry point in the light production space.
- The Xerox 4110™ Digital Copier/Printer with a FreeFlow DocuSP controller, which prints customized output at 110 ppm.
- New finishing options for the Xerox DocuTech 128 and Highlight Color Systems and availability of the first custom-blended colors for use in critical applications such as corporate logos.
Xerox further strengthened its color line with the DocuColor 260 Digtial Color Printer/Copier, operating at 75 ppm in black and white and 60 ppm in color. The system makes professional-grade image quality available at an affordable price. The company also introduced its new DocuColor 242 and 252 Digital Color Printer/Copiers. Built on the proven DocuColor 240/250 platform, they can be configured for use in offices as well as commercial and in-plant print operations.
Two new workflow tools, the FreeFlow Print Server 6.0 and FreeFlow Process Manager MAX (Manifest Automation from Xerox), further automate printing processes.
Xerox also spotlighted page volumes on its digital production color presses. The Xerox iGen3® Digital Production Press and DocuColor digital presses printed more than 13 billion 8.5?x 11? (A4) equivalent impressions in 2006 - about 50 percent of the total worldwide volume printed by all high-speed production color printers.
Office color, productivity and security To accelerate color printing in the office, Xerox launched a series of new color multifunction products (MFPs) - along with the DocuColor 260, 242 and 252 - that offer new options for producing high-end, laser-quality color prints and everyday business documents. Aimed at businesses small to large, the WorkCentre 7328, 7335 and 7345 systems print and copy at 26 to 35 ppm in color and 28 to 45 ppm in black-and-white. These models join the full Xerox office portfolio, which includes MFPs that run up to 95 ppm. They produce permanent images that will not smudge or smear. The systems can handle a wide variety of papers, and maintain their rated speed no matter how much color is used on the page. They also scan and include advanced security features to protect confidential information.
Xerox, together with five business partners, also rolled out nine software applications aimed at healthcare, education, finance and other industries. The solutions are the first that work with Xerox's Extensible Interface Platform (EIP), which allows users to access and print common business forms by touching a screen. One application gives users access to MapQuest at the MFP so they can browse and print directions without a PC - useful for guests in a hotel or travelers at the airport.
Xerox is demonstrating its full array of offerings this week at AIIM/On Demand, a major exhibition for the printing and imaging industry.
Konica Minolta Demonstrates bizhub OpenAPI with Hyland Software at 2007 ON DEMAND
Konica Minolta Booth #1215
Hyland Software Booth #1815
ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition – Boston, Mass.– April 17, 2007 – Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta), a leading provider of advanced imaging and networking technologies, showcases the potential of the company’s new bizhub OpenAPI capability that allows control of print and scan functions from external and third-party software applications.bizhub OpenAPI is demonstrated working seamlessly with Hyland Software’s OnBase OnLine at the 2007 ON DEMAND Conference and Exposition in Boston beginning April 17, 2007.
bizhub OpenAPI is a key component of Konica Minolta’s bizhub OP (Open Platform), the heart of a new line of bizhubTM multifunctional products (MFP). With bizhub OP, Konica Minolta consolidates the functions that move information and manages them in a consistent, compatible approach and common interface that simplifies end-user operation.bizhub OpenAPI allows control of print and scan functions from external and third-party software applications. bizhub OpenAPI uses common tools to allow custom integration with software applications that meet specialized business requirements – including cost recovery, account tracking, device security, document privacy, job history, user activity monitoring and custom scanning applications. And software developers will be able to create these applications with confidence that their solutions will have universal functionality in bizhub OP devices.
“Our MFP devices have become the hub of document-based information traffic throughout the enterprise,” said Kevin Kern, vice president, product planning and development, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc.“As a result, our customers require that our bizhub devices work with their applications as an ‘on ramp’ to scan documents to mission critical applications; and as an ‘off ramp’ to retrieve and print documents as required.bizhub OpenAPI now gives third party providers and our customers an easy way to integrate their software applications with bizhub MFPs. bizhub OpenAPI will open new opportunities for us to work with software developers, VARs, and integrators seeking ways to add value for their customers.”
bizhub OpenAPI and Hyland Software’s OnBase OnLine
The capability of bizhub OpenAPI will be demonstrated at ON DEMAND with Hyland Software’s OnBase OnLine. Documents can be scanned from a Konica Minolta MFP control panel, in this case on a bizhub C352 color printer/copier/scanner, to OnBase OnLine simply by pressing a function key on the scan menu.OnBase OnLine allows organizations to rapidly and cost effectively implement OnBase ECMsolutions without the need to expand or build an in-house network. With OnBase OnLine, customers gain the functionality and benefits of OnBase within a completely outsourced data center that is redundant and secure. As a result, organizations can combine the strength of a central content repository with the flexibility of an on-demand Web application, eliminating the often project-prohibitive investment required to create a sound technological infrastructure.
“MFP devices are increasingly deployed as a gateway to our ECM systems,” said John Opdycke, Vice President of Marketing, Hyland Software Inc.“We see more of our clients using the scan function on MFPs as a means to capture and store images and critical document-based information. It’s fast, convenient and easy to use.It is important for Hyland Software to partner with industry leaders such as Konica Minolta as a way to link OnBase to MFPs – our customers demand this capability and I think it is a great opportunity for both companies to provide a service that enhances the performance of our respective products.”

Objectif Lune and NSI announce partnership to provide customers with advanced archiving options for streamlined
Customers can output PlanetPress Suite documents compliant with AutoStore™ for secure integration in their business applications and databases.
Montreal, Quebec April 16, 2007 - Objectif Lune, a leader in the development and commercialization of variable data documents production software and Notable Solutions Inc. (NSI), leading provider of content capture solutions, today announced a technological partnership with the development of an AutoStore™ compliant connector.
AutoStore™ is a server based capture application that provides automated rule-based document and content capture, processing and distribution into many lines of business applications. Simply said, AutoStore™ is a document capture application that uses encoded TIFFs within an XML file with indexed fields. As a result of this partnership, PlanetPress Suite now offers the capability to export data that is compliant with this widely used application. When activated, this plug-in will enable users to output data compliant with NSI AutoStore™ format by selecting the appropriate output type. Once this option is selected, files can then be integrated in most of business applications and databases.
Many businesses still print their invoices, statements and other documents on impact printers using data coming from a mainframe. This method is very costly and does not offer the flexibility to add personalized messages to communications or the repurposing of data. Furthermore, hard copies of all printed documents must be kept and stored physically for future reference.
The AutoStore™ connector developed by Objectif Lune and NSI opens a whole new world of possibilities. Combined with PlanetPress Suite, a suite of software modules that allows easy creation and printing of transactional and promotional variable content documents as well as offering advanced automated distribution and workflow management capabilities, customers can easily optimize their entire document workflow and benefit from advanced archiving and tracking functionalities.
Capturing data from the mainframe and using it PlanetPress Suite to create transactional documents such as invoices, customers can easily add personalized messages such as promotions or targeted messages, print the desired number of copies, email the invoices to customers who prefer this method of communication and even send them by fax. Simultaneously, a TIFF version of the invoices can be created, and since AutoStore™ uses advanced OC and forms recognition, it can securely save the archived file in most business applications and enterprise databases. Businesses streamline their workflow and optimized their business process, while reducing costs.
“We are excited about this partnership between our two well proven solutions,” mentions Mike Beard, Director of Sales for Objectif Lune USA. “Giving customers the ability to bring their transactional communications to a new level and giving them the flexibility to efficiently archive and integrate documents in their business applications will allow them to reduce their costs and increase their productivity.”
This new connector will be available for demonstration at the upcoming On Demand Conference & Exposition in Boston. Customers can contact the Objectif Lune USA office via email (sales@us.objectiflune.com) to request a free session to learn more about this connector.
About Objectif Lune
Founded in 1993 in Montreal, Canada, Objectif Lune has continued to experience rapid growth. In 2004, the company acquired Atlas Software BV, developer and marketer of PrintShop Mail, an easy-to-use, entry-level tool that optimizes the merging of variable database information with document design. In June 2006, Objectif Lune entered the world of PCL printing with the acquisition of a German leader, Prout Software, and added PCL to its PostScript solutions portfolio. With this acquisition, Objectif Lune expanded its support for popular printing platforms to include the vast PCL market and gained technological expertise to start reaching a new type of customers. To help businesses make the most out of their variable data printing operations, Objectif Lune also offers a full range of professional services including software integration, document design and custom development. Winners were announced Tuesday, April 17 at the ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition. ON DEMAND is the world's leading digital printing conference and exposition, encompassing the technologies used to create, manage, personalize, print and deliver content. InfoTrends, Inc., a leading market research and consulting firm in the digital imaging and document solutions industry, partnered with ON DEMAND to produce the awards program.
"To win this honor two years in a row is gratifying for Océ and for our customers who place their trust in our solutions. The Océ VarioPrint® 6250 printer won Best of Show in 2006, and we are proud that the Océ VarioStream 9240 system has been recognized for its breakthrough technology this year," said Joseph Skrzypczak, President and CEO, Océ North America, Inc. "The Best of Show award demonstrates that Océ continues to meet the commitments we make to deliver the most advanced digital printing solutions available."
The full-color Océ VarioStream 9240 printer is the latest in the black and color-capable Océ VarioStream 9000 series. The four-color press offers single-pass duplexing at 172 letter-size full-color pages per minute – one of the fastest full-color toner-based digital presses on the market. Designed to deliver Océ Job Appropriate ColorTM results, the Océ VarioStream 9240 printer operates with maximum cost efficiency for black and white, one or two spot colors, or CMYK four-color process printing. Users pay for only what they print.
The versatile Océ VarioStream 9240 system easily addresses the needs of both corporate and commercial printing markets doing on demand, transactional, trans-promo, book publishing and other applications. Even when fully configured as a four-color press, the system can still print monochrome documents at 852 prints per minute, and two- and three-color documents at 353 and 231 prints per minute, respectively. This flexible approach lets customers run a wider range of jobs on just one system.
About the Océ VarioStream 9000 Series
The Océ VarioStream 9000 series lets customers grow into color applications by investing in a basic solution and gradually expand it as their requirements evolve. The printing systems can be combined with a variety of pre- and post-processing modules, and their UP³ITM capability integrates them perfectly into highly automated production lines. With their ability to handle such a wide range of applications, the Océ VarioStream 9000 systems are equally at home in commercial and in corporate printing environments – at graphic arts companies and print service providers as well as in banks, insurance companies and public administration.
The Océ VarioStream 9000 series can be equipped with Océ CustomTone® technology, providing a wide range of ready-made and mixed-to-order custom colors. This efficient custom color solution is ideal for applications that have to match corporate identity guidelines or include a particular spot color. Another added-value feature of the Océ VarioStream 9000 series is Graphic Arts Plus dot modulation, a special imaging technique that delivers brilliantly sharp reproduction for black and white images by varying the luminescence of each LED – over 11,000 in all – in the image generator. The outcome: images can be printed with much more photorealism.

Canon U.S.A. to Resell Pageflex Persona Cross Media Suite 2007 from Bitstream
Agreement enables Canon’s extensive dealer channels to provide customers with robust variable data and cross media publishing capabilities.
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Canon U.S.A., Inc. (NYSE:CA, http://www.usa.canon.com/,), and Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ: BITS, http://www.bitstream.com/ and http://www.pageflex.com/, booth), the leading provider of variable data and Web-to-print software for personalized marketing, today announced an agreement under which Canon will make available Pageflex™ Persona™ Cross Media Suite through the imagePRESS Workflow Solutions program for use with the new Canon imagePRESS C7000VP digital press. Persona, a desktop software package, enables the creation of database-driven variable data print (VDP) and personalized HTML emails. It offers a robust feature set typically not found in a desktop VDP product.
Through this distribution agreement sales representatives from across all Canon Authorized Dealers will be able to sell Persona to customers looking to produce personalized and customized print and HTML email communications. Bitstream initially joined Canon U.S.A.'s Imaging Systems Group (ISG) Alliance and Industry Marketing (AIM) program in 2005 and has been participating in the imagePRESS Workflow Solutions program since it was announced at Graph Expo last year.
Canon's new high-end color production engine, the imagePRESS C7000VP, is targeted at the production and commercial print sectors, traditional primary markets for Persona. Pageflex Persona also brings variable data and cross media capabilities to users of Canon imageRUNNER® and CLC® products enabling customers to get the most value from their Canon products. Poised to revolutionize digital printing, Canon’s imagePRESS C7000VP digital press will deliver consistent print speed at 70 pages-per-minute (ppm) for letter-sized output in color regardless of the weight of the media combining productivity with offset image quality output.
Persona enables imagePRESS C7000VP owners to achieve increased press usage and profitability by providing easy-to-learn, and yet full featured, VDP capability. Additionally Persona’s cross media capabilities and ability to submit projects—both print and HTML—to the Pageflex server and Pageflex Storefront products extends the opportunities for imagePRESS C7000VP owners to secure additional business from existing and new customers.
Persona, as part of the Pageflex product line, was the first VDP application to be certified as a PPML Producer by the Print On Demand Initiative (PODi), the premier industry association focused solely on the digital print market. PPML (personalized print markup language) is an XML-based print language standard developed by PODi. PPML enables printers to efficiently produce personalized high-volume print communications by caching re-usable design and image elements. Persona produces PPML, as well as PostScript and PDF, for digital presses, including the Canon imagePRESS C7000VP.
“As printers are becoming marketing service providers for their customers the ability to develop and provide multi-channel marketing campaigns that use demographic targeting to drive response rates is becoming as important as their production and printing capabilities,” says Janet Cain, director and assistant general manager, Production Systems Division, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “The personalization and cross media capabilities of Pageflex Persona provide imagePRESS customers with the ability to offer additional value added services to their customers and create new revenue streams for their business.”
“We are delighted to have Canon USA resell Pageflex Persona Cross Media Suite,” says Anna Chagnon, Bitstream CEO. “This agreement enhances our existing long-term relationship with Canon and underscores our commitment to supporting digital printers who need a desktop VDP application with advanced customization and cross media capabilities. With Canon’s extensive dealer channels, we have high expectations for their ability to proliferate Persona in the marketplace.”
Canon and Pageflex are demonstrating Pageflex Persona Cross Media Suite this week in the Canon booth (#1400) and the Pageflex booth (#701) at the On Demand Conference and Exposition in Boston. In a joint demonstration the companies are showing Persona producing PPML output of highly-customized 16-page booklets based on travel excursion information in a database. The booklets are being printed on the Canon imagePRESS C7000VP digital press. Exhibition attendees can take home printed samples of the vacation booklets, which demonstrate a wide gamut of image, color, and ink coverage, as well as substantial content variation from booklet to booklet.
Canon expects to begin selling Persona this summer.

New MicroPress Connectivity Kit for the Color imageRUNNER C5180/C4580/C4080
The new EFI MicroPress Connectivity Kit for the Color imageRUNNER C5180/C4580/C4080 provides a true mid-production document solution targeted towards environments such as central reprographic departments, print for pay and digital print shops. This new EFI MicroPress connectivity to the Canon Color imageRUNNER C5180/C4580/C4080, along with the current optional connectivity to the black-and-white Canon imageRUNNER 7105 series, completes the mid-production reprographic requirements, enabling complex documents to be split between color and black-and-white devices. For example, all color pages can be automatically routed to Canon imageRUNNER C5180/C4580/C4080 devices for printing, and then merged with monochrome pages using the insertion unit on an imageRUNNER 7105 Series for professional finishing such as perfect binding. This combination of controller technology and printing is now attainable at a greater value than ever before.
EFI Micropress is the uniquely raster-based color and black and white powerful production workflow solution that simplifies complex job construction by automating labor-intensive processes such as hand collating, tab inserting, document renumbering and booklet creating, and minimizes the need for re-RIPing. Additionally, EFI ratchets up the color capability in MicoPress by integrating the industry’s leading tools for consistent, high-quality color. MicroPress users now have strengthened color power with the integration of ColorWise® ProTools, EFI’s popular color print production management suite and EFI Spot On, a feature that provides the ability to measure and manage spot colors, particularly relevant in print service providers’ achieving corporate colors. With MicroPress, print service providers have an unprecedented two-punch production workflow power: top speed and accurate, high-quality color.
“Extending the long-standing, successful EFI-Canon collaboration with these new solutions means customers will benefit from the increasingly powerful combination of Canon digital color quality in a production engine and state-of-the-art technology from EFI,” said Mehran Farimani, senior vice president and general manager, Fiery products, EFI. “From our best Fiery ever, to our new Digital StoreFront and MicroPress, seamless integration via the enhanced Fiery JDF Connector to EFI business management software and our connectivity to prepress applications – EFI solutions for Canon customers are designed to help them grow their business, increase their productivity, and ultimately print to win.”

Xerox and Partner Software Bring Added Customization, Security to Multifunction Systems
Xerox, Equitrac, Nuance, Omtool, Streem and X-Solutions announce nine applications built on Xerox’s Extensible Interface Platform
AIIM Conference & Expo 2007
ON DEMAND Conference & Expo 2007
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) and five business partners are rolling out new software that gives users of Xerox office multifunction systems greater customization, added workflow capabilities and enhanced security.
In addition to Xerox, business partners such as Equitrac Corp., Nuance Communications Inc., Omtool Ltd., Streem Communications LLC and X-Solutions are announcing new versions of their own workflow software products that do everything from tracking how many pages are being printed on an MFP to automatically routing documents to predefined locations, be they repositories, e-mails or network folders.
The Xerox and partner offerings were unveiled at AIIM/On Demand, a major conference and exhibition for the document imaging industry. All are built with Xerox’s Extensible Interface Platform (EIP), which was released in October 2006. EIP enables developers to build applications that simplify office work processes such as providing access to common business forms directly from the MFP, printing on demand, and much more. Personalization and customization are key elements of EIP. With this platform, MFP programs can be built that give users single sign-on access to applications specific to a company’s, workgroup’s or individual’s needs or requirements.
“Customers are no longer looking for a box that simply prints, faxes, scans and copies, they want a system that can improve their work processes and deliver a competitive advantage,” said Brian Bissett, international consultant and editor of The MFP Report. “This new realm of solutions enabled by Xerox’s Extensible Interface Platform is critical to capturing share in the MFP market.”
EIP is based on standard Web tools that allow for quick programming and offer developers a wide range of possibilities. One new application by Xerox provides access to MapQuest at the MFP. Users can find and print directions directly from the system’s touch screen, bypassing their PC entirely. Another application lets people with a subscription to the New York Times receive daily feeds right at the MFP where they can easily be printed. Both programs will be available for free download starting in June at http://www.xerox.com/.
In addition to these products, Xerox announced SMARTsend® Pro, enabled by Xerox EIP, and the Xerox Secure Access Unified ID System™.
The new version of SMARTsend Pro is an update to Xerox’s scanning software that lets users scan hard copy documents to e-mail addresses, repositories, FTP folders, network folders, Web URLs or remote printers. Users can preview newly scanned documents from the MFP’s display for accuracy and then store them in Xerox DocuShare®, Microsoft Corp. SharePoint or Windows folders, without the need for a pre-defined template. People can then use the MFP’s touch screen to browse and print those documents.
The Xerox Secure Access Unified ID System is designed for organizations such as healthcare companies, financial services firms and educational institutions looking to more tightly secure their sensitive records. With this system, which combines card readers and software, users can access Xerox MFPs after swiping or waving their ID card in front of the card reader on the MFP. For added security, a PIN or password can be built into the software. The Secure Access system can integrate with an organization’s existing employee badge ID system.
A key feature of Secure Access Unified ID is Follow-You™ print, which lets users securely print to the most convenient Secure Access-equipped MFP on the network. Users simply print the document to a secure print queue and then go to any Secure Access-equipped MFP. With a wave of their ID card, they can print the document, print multiple copies, delete the print or securely store it to print later. No longer does sensitive information sit in the MFP tray, waiting for the rightful owner to collect it.
“Everyone wants to make work easier and help reduce the time and money spent handling documents,” said Roger Ellefson, manager of Solutions Marketing, Xerox Office Group. “EIP-enabled software allows customers to adapt the MFP to the way they work. By customizing the system so that users only see the buttons they need, our programs make document management faster, easier and more accurate.”
In conjunction with the new EIP-enabled applications, Xerox announced a new developers program as part of the Xerox Business Partner Program. With a quick member application and basic contract, developers gain free access to EIP software development kits. They can also take advantage of Xerox technical, sales and training support offerings.
Business partner applications
The following applications, the first third-party programs developed with EIP, were disclosed at AIIM/On Demand:
- Equitrac Office and Equitrac Express software from Equitrac enable offices and educational institutions to track, measure and control how many pages are printed, copied or scanned by individuals or departments. Such capabilities are particularly important for offices subject to regulations like Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA.
- Scan to PC Desktop EIP Edition, from Nuance, enables office workers to customize the scanning menus and tasks they will see at the MFP, reducing the steps needed to scan and save information. This effectively turns the MFP into the user’s own personal document management system.
- AccuRoute, from Omtool, is an enterprise capture, conversion, distribution and archiving platform that enables businesses to manage complex document handling and routing requirements efficiently and cost-effectively. Equipped by EIP, it can now be accessed directly from the Xerox MFP touch screen.
- Streem Connect, from Streem Communications, now offers a centralized communications management system for secure scan-to-fax, e-mail and broadcast notification. This can be used to send, receive, print, archive and track information through the MFP. With the product, government, healthcare and educational institutions can deliver critical information, such as patient information, student performance and more, securely, and with immediate results.
- ScanFlowStore with Interactive Client from X-Solutions is scanning software for small and medium-sized businesses that aims to provide error-free document routing. Traditionally, scanned documents must be manually named and distributed, a tedious and error-prone process. With Interactive Client, users select a file name and destination from easy-to-use, pre-programmed tabs found on the MFP’s touch screen, reducing distribution errors and simplifying document processes.
Pricing and availability
List prices for Xerox Secure Access start at $795. It is available immediately in North America and Europe, and will be available in developing markets beginning May 1. SMARTsend Pro, enabled by Xerox EIP, is available immediately worldwide. List prices start at $4,499. Current SMARTsend Pro users can download the new features free from www.xerox.com/smartsend. Both Secure Access and SMARTsend Pro are sold in North America through direct sales, authorized agents and Xerox TeleWeb. Xerox’s Extensible Interface Platform is available on the Xerox WorkCentre® 200 series departmental monochrome multifunction systems and the WorkCentre 7300 series color multifunction systems. It will also be made available on future WorkCentre color and black-and-white MFPs.

Systems give customers offset-like image quality, added flexibility, new revenue opportunities
ON DEMAND Conference & Expo 2007
Booth No. #914
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) has revamped its entire monochrome production printing portfolio with an array of new products and image quality improvements designed to help print providers of all sizes tackle complex digital printing jobs and drive continued growth. The new offerings debut here at AIIM/On Demand, a major conference and exhibition for the document imaging industry.
“The black-and-white market continues to be an important area of focus and innovation for Xerox, as well as a significant revenue-generator for our customers,” said Quincy Allen, president, Xerox Production Systems Group. “From light to mass production and every niche in between, our products and tools are aimed at meeting customer demand for high-quality output and delivering new ways to grow their business.”
Highlights include a mix of new technology and enhancements to Xerox’s monochrome production portfolio:
- The Xerox Nuvera® 100/120/144 EA Digital Production System, a new platform using Emulsion Aggregation Toner, enables users to custom design the configuration that best fits their printing needs. EA Toner also is a key feature of the now officially launched Xerox Nuvera 288 Digital Perfecting System, giving the tandem-engine architecture black-and-white printing system a true offset look and feel.
- The Xerox 4595 Digital Copier/Printer presents a new entry-point in the light production monochrome category at 95 pages per minute. Also in the light production category, Xerox is adding a new print controller option for the award-winning Xerox 4110 Digital Copier/Printer.
- The Xerox DocuTech® Highlight Color Systems, including the 128 and 155 ppm models, have new finishing options and print stream choices. In addition, the first custom-blended colors are available for these systems.
Next generation Xerox Nuvera EA platform
Xerox is unveiling the next generation of its Xerox Nuvera platform: the Xerox Nuvera EA Digital Production System line, which provides offset-quality images and brings Xerox Nuvera reliability beyond the industry standard set by Xerox’s DocuTech systems. It also offers broad substrate flexibility, including coated stock.
The Xerox Nuvera EA platform will use EA Toner, Xerox’s patented chemically grown toner. It has extremely small particles, resulting in a smooth, consistent offset matte finish and sharper details and images than traditional toner. EA Toner improves the overall reliability of the machine, requires less energy to manufacture and generates less waste. Developed in Xerox research labs, Xerox is constructing a state-of-the-art $59 million facility in Webster, N.Y. to manufacture EA Toner and expand its use.
The new Xerox Nuvera EA platform brings “mix-and-match” capabilities to mid- and high-production environments, allowing customers to design the configuration that best fits their needs. The platform is modular and upgradeable so products can be tailored to current and future printing requirements. Customers can now build a system by selecting their print controller, scanning, feeding and finishing options, and printing speeds – 100, 120 and 144 ppm. The platform is designed to meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s rigorous new ENERGY STAR® requirements. Xerox’s sheet enhancement module, which automatically ensures the sheets of paper stack perfectly flat, has also been incorporated into this new platform.
Tandem-engine Xerox Nuvera 288 available
A fully integrated, tandem-engine architecture makes the new Xerox Nuvera 288 Digital Perfecting System run two-sided prints twice as fast with image quality equivalent to offset printing standards. Two Xerox Nuvera print engines physically connected together in one system can produce books, catalogs, bills, statements and other graphic-intensive documents at 288 duplex impressions per minute (144 two-sided pages) – the industry’s fastest cut-sheet duplex system. Xerox’s “Pass Through Programming” technology – which keeps the Xerox Nuvera 288 DPS running even if one of the engines is stopped – provides continued productivity and uptime for commercial print operations and in-house printing facilities.
The system, shown last year as a technology demonstration and now available for customer installs, uses EA Toner. At a resolution of 4800 x 600 dots per inch and 156 lines per inch, the Xerox Nuvera 288 DPS is the highest resolution black-and-white digital production system on the market. The offset quality of the images coupled with the ability to run coated substrates makes the system ideal for transactional printing and book publishing, especially scientific, technical and medical manuals which include detailed drawings and images.
Other key features include: the sheet enhancement module; a Xerox FreeFlow® DocuSP® print controller including an optional second dual-core processor to handle extremely complex jobs with large amounts of graphics and variable images; and a parallel RIP, proprietary software that can simultaneously process multiple long jobs. It excels on jobs with many non-repeating scanned images or photographs such as text books, magazines, yearbooks and product manuals.
“As a business owner, everything is about productivity. Our Xerox Nuvera 288 Digital Perfecting System installed smoothly in December, and then we printed more than 5 1/2 million pages during the next 90 days,” said David Rohe, president, The Document Centre, Carol Stream, Ill., one of the first companies to test the product. The Document Centre is producing saddle-stitched 8.5”x11” booklets and 200-plus page catalogs with all tabs and additional materials inserted as the books are printed. “We liked the machine so much that we just ordered another one,” Rohe added.
New light production entry
With the continued growth of the light production monochrome segment, Xerox has introduced the Xerox 4595 Digital Copier/Printer. The 95 ppm system is based upon the same design as the award-winning Xerox 4110 Digital Copier/Printer.
The Xerox 4595 provides customers with advanced functions at an entry-level price point – making it ideal for K-12 educational institutions, large work groups, and quick and franchise printers. An easy-to-use control panel and extensive in-line finishing capabilities allow users to efficiently produce jobs including maps and booklets and everyday business materials like reports. Scanning 100 single-sided pages per minute or 60 double-sided pages, the system allows large networked offices and light production environments including in-house print shops to scan directly to e-mail or a File Transfer Protocol server. The Xerox 4595 includes an integrated print controller or an optional Xerox FreeFlow DocuSP print controller.
Xerox is also announcing a stand-alone FreeFlow DocuSP print controller for the 4110 Digital Copier/Printer, a 110 page-per-minute, black-and-white digital system. The server features expanded workflow control and variable-data printing capabilities for Xerox 4110 customers in corporate reprographic departments and quick printers and commercial printing operations.
DocuTech Highlight Color enhancements
Print providers can now choose a Xerox DocuTech 128 or 155 Highlight Color System with finishing options – stacking, stitching and tape binding – to generate new revenue-producing, high-volume publishing jobs such as books, manuals and direct mail. This enhanced finishing is already available for the DocuTech 180 Highlight Color System. Customers who produce transactional documents including bills, statements and invoices now have more print stream choices on the DocuTech 128, 155 and 180 Highlight Color Systems. These systems already accept data in industry-standard formats such as Adobe® PostScript® and PDF for printing traditional publishing documents, and VIPP® and PPML for personalized documents. With the FreeFlow DocuSP print controller, they can now accept data in IPDS and LCDS formats, eliminating the need to use software to transform the data stream before it reaches the printer, which can slow down throughput on print jobs and lead to errors.
In addition, Xerox’s custom-blended color program is expanding. In phase one, red, blue green, cyan and magenta were available for blending for the DocuTech Highlight Color Systems. One additional color, yellow, and two additional blending primary colors, clear and black, will be added this year. Xerox’s custom-blended colors allow print providers to match logo colors and other company branding requirements for their clients with a vast number of highlight colors/shades of red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, violet, magenta and brown.
Highlight-color jobs – documents in black plus one other color – make documents more effective by drawing attention to relevant information. The economical addition of color to black-and-white documents can increase the services that a print provider can offer their clients. In the C.P. Bourg booth, the DocuTech 180 Highlight Color System with an inline Xerox Manual + Book Factory, will print a selection from The Little Blue Book of Advertising by Emmy Award-winner Steve Lance, who will sign copies of the book on Wednesday. Completing the monochrome product portfolio revamp is the single-engine Xerox 495 Continuous Feed Duplex Printer, announced in February. The new 500 image-per-minute digital printer simultaneously prints both sides of an 18” wide web, and features a small-footprint design and innovative flash-fusing technology that results in increased substrate flexibility, and better image quality and productivity than competitive systems.
