ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition’s Marketing Keynote Panel Offers Insights on Industry Trends and Marketing Priorities from InfoTrends, the CMO Council and the Direct Marketing Association
Newton, MA, February 19, 2008 -- Questex Media Group’s ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition (ondemandexpo.com), the preeminent event for commercial printers, publishers, and in-plant printing professionals, will present a marketing focused keynote panel titled “The Changing Media Mix: A Marketing Perspective” on Wednesday, March 5 at 11:10 a.m. Senior executives from InfoTrends, the CMO Council and the Direct Marketing Association will discuss critical industry trends and priorities of marketing executives. The ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition will take place at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center from March 4-6, with tutorials on Monday, March 3, 2008.
This keynote panel is designed to provide first-hand insights from leading marketing experts including Donovan Neale-May, Executive Director of the CMO Council and Ramesh Ratan, Executive Vice President and COO for the Direct Marketing Association. Barb Pellow, Group Leader, InfoTrends will moderate the discussion. Attendees will gain perspective on how to adjust their business models and deliver value-added services to support the highest growth application segment - marketing communications and direct mail.
“The combination of affordable color and multi-channel campaign marketing solutions along with integrated marketing dashboards is helping the savvy print service provider transform into a more profitable marketing services provider (MSP),” commented Pellow.
According to the CMO Council’s Annual Marketing Outlook report of Chief Marketing Officers, the majority of marketers noted that their top goals are to qualify and measure the value of marketing programs and investments, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the marketing organization and grow customer knowledge, insight, and dialogue.
“The pressure to deliver ROI has given rise to a new breed of CMOs that is more focused on measurable performance and business results,” stated Donovan Neale-May, Executive Director of the CMO Council.
“After enjoying free rein to spend money, build brands, and gain awareness in the latter half of the 1990s, marketers today face far greater demands for accountability and proven return on investment from the board room, the CEO, and their peers in other departments,” commented Ramesh Ratan, Executive Vice President and COO for the Direct Marketing Association. March 4, 2008 – Trumbull, CT and Boston, MA – Océ shows ON DEMAND® Conference attendees how to take business beyond the ordinary. Attendees can visit Booth 1217 to learn about the full range of Océ capabilities and how they enhance workflow productivity, output quality and business profitability. From the latest high volume monochrome and full color inkjet production systems, to award-winning cut-sheet duplex devices and versatile color engines, to advanced Océ workflow software, the Océ booth offers a wealth of solutions for the on-demand marketplace.
Making its US debut at the ON DEMAND conference, the new Océ VarioStream® 8000 high-speed, continuous feed, monochrome and highlight color series is ideal for a wide range of environments and industries. The Océ VarioStream 8000 series builds on the popular features of the Océ VarioStream 7000 family, with additional speed and versatility. It offers the further advantage of a solid foundation for upgrading as needs and markets change. No other printer in its class provides Océ CustomTone® printing, MICR output and simplex, duplex and triplex technology in one package. ON DEMAND attendees can see this state-of-the-art system running a high-volume, black and white financial statement. Today’s popular transpromo applications are also represented in a variable black and highlight color document application.
The award-winning Océ VarioPrint® 6000 series comes to the show fresh from its latest recognition, a rare BERTL® “Beyond 5 Stars” rating. This revolutionary product family pushes duplex productivity to new heights, with powerful Océ Gemini Instant Duplex technology for outstanding quality in cut-sheet documents. Attendees can learn more about the prestigious BERTL Award by obtaining a copy of the BERTL report printed live at the ON DEMAND conference. The 24-sheet report includes an inserted color preprinted front and back cover with side staple finishing. Demonstrating the printer’s halftone quality, the system will produce a 31-sheet Quality Book, including an inserted, preprinted Océ VarioPrint 12-page family brochure. The front and back covers use special textured stock with side staple finishing. Attendees will witness the blazing speed of the Océ VarioPrint system as they watch production of a “Less-than-a-Minute Speedbook.” The 96-sheet application includes front and back covers on special textured stock. In a demonstration of the system’s near perfect front-to-back print registration, a one-sheet application on 16 lb bond sheet shows a forward and reverse image on the front and back of the page. Attendees interested in other Océ VarioPrint applications can see an informational saddle-stitched “Guide to Boston” booklet printed on an Océ VarioPrint 6160 and finished on a BLM200 booklet maker in the Plockmatic International Booth 1062.
The remarkable capabilities of the new Océ JetStream™ family are being demonstrated remotely via digital viewing to give the ON DEMAND audience a detailed first look at this revolutionary technology. The breakthrough continuous feed ink-jet system delivers full process, professional quality color at 500 feet per minute. Output samples of the highest quality will further showcase the latest in high speed, full color inkjet production printing. Service bureaus and other attendees will see how the next generation of Océ Job Appropriate Color® strategy can take their business beyond the ordinary.
The powerful Océ CS 650 Pro 65 ppm color production printing system brings in-plant and commercial print providers cost-effective, high-quality production color printing capabilities. In addition to applications showcasing inline finishing, various color reference sheets are being printed to illustrate the machine's outstanding color accuracy. An inline perfect binder will be part of the workflow producing a 120-page full color Taco® Marine catalog of boat hardware in US letter-size format. Using an inline saddle stitcher, the Océ CS 650 Pro will produce a Boston edition of Where® magazine, a 32-page US letter-sized guide to entertainment throughout the area. The Yale Shoe catalog, a 24-page US letter-sized catalog of very colorful shoes designed for the hip-hop industry, will also be printed and saddle stitched inline.
At ON DEMAND, attendees can learn how Océ PRISMA™ workflow software, including Océ TrueProof®, Océ PRISMAprepare™ and Océ PRISMAweb™ capabilities, improve productivity at every step, from document design and proofing to production and web-to-print interfaces. The software complements the capabilities of the just announced Océ JetStream and Océ VarioStream 8000 systems, as well as the new Océ ColorStream™ 10000 and the remainder of the Océ continuous feed and cut sheet systems. As the demand for digital color grows, the on-demand market will benefit from Océ PRISMA software for faster document preparation, broader interoperability and streamlined electronic proofing for their color applications.

Two New Targeted Sales Modules in the KODAK MARKETMOVER Services Program Help Digital Printers Capture Additional Business
BOSTON, Mar. 4-Print service providers looking to expand and grow their digital print businesses will benefit from the two newest vertical market programs added to the KODAK MARKETMOVER Targeted Sales Module (TSM). Joining four existing modules, the Financial Services and the Education Targeted Sales Modules are designed to support KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Press users in their sales and marketing efforts to capture new business and drive new revenue in a variety of specific vertical markets.
For each vertical segment, the individual Targeted Sales Module offers an overview of the unique business issues in that market and provides customizable integrated cross media campaigns to help market and sell application based solutions that address the challenges of that particular vertical market.
In addition, categorized by vertical market, users will find direct marketing programs, brochures, presentation and sales tools, personalized URL templates, links to an online prospect database, an active list and contact information of all relevant major publications and trade shows, and an online portal for the customization of marketing and sales tools.
"Nothing will come close to having the long term impact on our company that the TSMs will have," noted Dan Cornelius, CEO of Prime Digital Printing in Dayton, Ohio. "The wealth of information and resources is invaluable, and Kodak has distinguished itself from the competition by bringing extra value to its customers. The new Financial Services and Education vertical market programs will enable us to aggressively target these market segments."
Because many printers today lack the internal marketing resources necessary to identify and capture new business in vertical markets, the MARKETMOVER Services program is a critical asset in the marketing toolkit of a growing print for pay business. Kodak has developed the program as part of its commitment to helping its customers grow and succeed.
The strategies and content of the Financial Services Module help print service providers address the business needs that financial services firms have with new customer acquisition, customer retention and cross selling, and cost reductions from streamlined business processes. The Education Module is designed to address recruitment, fundraising, and event marketing by helping with programs such as customized collateral and student welcome kits, campaign microsites, personalized sales programs, and event marketing kits.
"These new MARKETMOVER Targeted Sales Modules will enable our customers to expand their customer bases by addressing the needs of vertical markets that represent high print opportunities," says Robert Barbera, Director, Business Development Services, Kodak's Graphic Communications Group. "These resources make it possible for printers to truly understand the needs of specific customer groups."
The two new MARKETMOVER Targeted Sales Modules join four existing Targeted Sales Modules: Manufacturing, Retail, Advertising and Marketing Agencies, and Existing Customers (a program for marketing to an existing customer base). At the AIIM ON DEMAND Conference and Expo, Kodak will showcase the breadth and power of its KODAK MARKETMOVER Business Development Services:
- MARKETMOVER Resource Center-A portal with a wide range of marketing and sales tools to support a growing print business
- MARKETMOVER Targeted Sales Modules-A comprehensive program to support printers in marketing and selling into targeted verticals
- MARKETMOVER Network-A community of KODAK Product users to support distribute and print opportunities
- MARKETMOVER Consulting and Training Services-A resource for Kodak's digital printing and web-to-print customers
- Print Ambassador-A program designed to help drive awareness for the power of print.
To extend the value of the MARKETMOVER Targeted Sales Modules, customers can choose from several optional services available through Marketing Mentors, Inc., a provider of strategic sales and marketing support to corporations engaged in cross media applications including print, direct mail, and the Internet. For e-marketing, participants can select custom landing page, automated sales routing, or personalized URL capabilities. Print providers can also create a complete corporate identity package to promote their companies.
KODAK MARKETMOVER Business Development Services deliver a wide range of innovative tools, resources, and support to enable customers to maximize their return on investment in new technologies and achieve dynamic business growth. MARKETMOVER Service professionals work directly with customers in developing marketing plans, training senior management and sales representatives on new business opportunities, and supporting marketing and sales programs.

The product family offers flexible variations to give customers capabilities they need now, while providing an upgrade path for future requirements. The three base models are the Océ VarioStream 8550 system at 530 two-up letter-size simplex ipm, the Océ VarioStream 8650 system at 636 simplex ipm, and the Océ VarioStream 8750 system at 750 simplex ipm. The printers operate in simplex, twin and triplex configurations, with the twin systems ranging from 1,060 to 1,500 duplex ipm. The triplex version can print two Océ CustomTone colors on one side, and one Océ CustomTone color on the other at 1,060 ipm. Duty cycles range from 32 million to over 45 million two-up letter impressions per month.
Achieving 24/7 Productivity
As the digital print market matures, high-volume printing has become a lucrative opportunity, and the new Océ VarioStream 8000 family positions customers to capture more of this business. With expanded capacity, faster turnaround, quality efficiencies, output choices, and the highest levels of reliability, printers can pursue and deliver new opportunities.
“We are honored to receive the iF award as another indication of our leadership in the continuous feed market. Year after year, Océ leads the continuous feed market in placements, according to InfoTrends research, and we are committed to supporting customers who need this type of technology. Over the last two years, we have completely refreshed our product offerings. The Océ VarioStream 8000 system extends the breadth of Océ continuous feed solutions and provides a solid foundation for upgrading, so customers can quickly react to market opportunities,” said Guy Broadhurst, Vice President of Product Marketing, Océ North America, Production Printing Systems.
Convergence-ready through Versatile, Multi-Purpose Printing
With the versatile Océ VarioStream 8000 system, Océ again responds to the market’s continuing demand for convergent solutions for TransPromo and other applications. With one solution, the Océ VarioStream 8000 family meets the needs of commercial, corporate and graphic arts customers wanting to offer both low-cost, high-speed printing services and high-quality, on-demand printing. As a result, commercial operations can drive more revenue from one system, while corporate print operations can enhance their value to the enterprise.
Key applications for the Océ VarioStream 8000 family include traditional transaction statements, as well as new TransPromo documents. In addition, the system continues the Océ expansion into the graphic arts market with its versatility and attention to quality. The Océ VarioStream 8000 family features a 19.5” print width, giving customers more options for output and services, such as printing three-up 6”x9” books with bleed and trim margins.
Print Adjusts to Speed and Quality Demands
Users can choose the speed and quality best suited to their applications and budgets without changes to existing applications. Production Quality mode uses the most cost-effective consumables for 240-, 300-, and 600-dpi output. Customers who need higher quality for on-demand output can choose the Graphics Quality setting for finer halftones and images. The unique Enhanced Print Quality (EPQ) feature offers outstanding image quality on a wide range of substrates, and the latest EPQ version is standard on all Océ VarioStream 8000 systems. With the printer’s unique technology, print operations can deliver output with up to 256 gray shades, giving halftones a more photo-realistic look and feel.
Multi-purpose printing is further achieved with Multiple Resolution Mode with auto-resolution. It allows easy, automatic switching between 240-, 300-, and 600-dpi print jobs, or even mixing 240-, 300-, and 600-dpi resolution resources on the same page. No job modification or operator intervention is required. Legacy jobs can run along with new ones, and older jobs can be updated without reworking the entire workflow.
Extending the Océ Job Appropriate Color Strategy
The new printer family extends the Océ Job Appropriate Color® strategy by helping customers make the most effective use of highlight color in more of their applications. Océ CustomTone toner can be used in simplex, twin and triplex configurations. The unique triplex configuration allows users to print two different colors on one side of a page and a third color on the back for maximum flexibility with the highest performance. As a result, customers can use just the color they need to meet their business objectives. Even specialty colors are possible via exclusive Océ CustomTone printing. With over 400 CustomTone colors already available, users can stand out with cost-effective highlight color at up to 1,060 pages/minute. As a result, they can become competitive specialists in this fast-growing sector.
Complex, secure variable applications like checks, insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), Image Replacement Documents (IRDs) and other applications requiring MICR toner can be printed on Océ VarioStream 8000 systems at up to 1,273 pages a minute. Unique Océ Quick Change Developer Stations make color and MICR toner changes quick and easy, in addition to offering more capabilities in one fast system.
The Océ VarioStream 8000 family is now available worldwide.

Ricoh Americas Corporation Wins ON DEMAND Best of Show Award
Ricoh Ring Binder Takes Home Best of Show for Increasing Efficiency in Production Printing Environments
BOSTON, March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced that the Ricoh Ring Binder RB5000 has been honored at this year's ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition with a Best of Show award in the Bindery/Finishing/Mailing Equipment category. The RB5000 was selected for its industry-leading, fully automated in-line ring binding system that enables users to create finished ring bound books right from their desktop. The awards were announced during a ceremony at ON DEMAND on March 4, 2008.
InfoTrends, a leading market research and consulting firm in the digital imaging and document solutions industry, partnered with the ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition to produce the awards program. The ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition is the world's leading digital printing conference and exposition, encompassing all of the technologies that are used to create, manage, personalize, print and deliver content. The Best of Show submissions were judged using a set of weighted criteria by a panel of experts from the printing and graphic arts industries.
The RB5000 is compatible with Ricoh's new Pro Series production systems and marks the first time an automated binding product has ever been introduced on a monochrome digital printing system. In addition, the RB5000 collates, punches and in-line binds up to 100 pages so booklets lay flatter than other types of in-line binding currently offered on the market.
"We are very excited to offer the Ricoh RB5000 which will increase efficiency and ease binding processes for commercial and in-plant printers," said Ron Potesky, vice president, Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. "It is an honor to be recognized at the ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition for this innovative finishing product."
The RB5000 will be available in late Spring 2008. For more information about Ricoh's full line of products, please visit www.ricoh-usa.com.

Elixir Technologies Announces Support for Xerox FreeFlow Specialty Imaging for Fraud Prevention
VENTURA, CA - March 4, 2008 - Elixir Technologies Corporation, a leading developer of software for creating and managing high-value documents of all types, today announced support for Xerox Specialty Imaging in Vitesse, Elixir's application for VIPP Pro application development. The Xerox Specialty Imaging (SI) suite. named by R&D Magazine as one of 2007's most important technologically significant new products. provides imaging text effects that can only be printed with a FreeFlow digital front end in combination with FreeFlow software. These special effects helps protect against fraud by making it more difficult to copy or digitally modify the document.
Vitesse VIPP Pro designs support these important SI text features:
- MicroText
prints text as small as .01", small enough to print a 100-page book on a single sheet of 8.5" by 11" paper.
- GlossText®
prints text so that the content is not visible in straight-on view, but becomes visible as gloss under inclined illumination. The GlossText cannot be copied or duplicated.
- Correlation Mark
prints text so that the content is only visible when a "key" transparency is superimposed. Again, this ensures the document you have is an original.
- FluorescentMark
prints text so that the content is virtually invisible under normal light but becomes visible under UV/black-light. However, this text would not be visible under the UV/black-light if the document were copied or altered.
Vitesse designs can include text using one or more of the fonts to create multiple layers of security for event tickets, identification cards and other documents carrying personal or negotiable data.

A noticeable number of Print Service Providers have chosen DocBridge Pilot- why?
Even we were surprised at the rapid adoption rate of DocBridge Pilot in Europe. Although Compart has a traditionally strong position in this vertical, the success is due to a couple of very practical reasons. This news from the real world explains what the common motive was.
The difficult starting position
The Service bureau and print service provider's business has changed significantly in recent years. Only a short time ago it was possible to require precisely how the datastreams were to be accepted. However, competitive pressure has turned this situation around completely: Clients now present their output to the provider with the implication that if they cannot manage it, then the competition will.
In order to best manage composed output, the main requirement is flexibility for both the input and processing of document datastreams and the support for all the other output delivery channels required by the market.
Customer documents are received in a variety of formats including PDF, PCL, PostScript, AFP, Xerox Metacode and LCDS, SAP's ALF and OTF, and also various Office document formats. In addition to the format, the size of the output files can also be an issue, with ranges from a single PDF file containing a single document to very large AFP files encompassing millions of pages. All have to be processed according to their individual requirements for extraction, splitting, sorting, stamping, modifying, converting, co-mingling and optimization.
Desperate Attempts at a Solution
Many providers attempted to get control by programming their way out of this situation. This programming based approach quickly leads to a dead end. As the required scripts grew in number and complexity, it quickly became apparent that the manpower, quality control and maintenance problems overshadowed economic viability.
Furthermore, a commonly used "unification strategy" for normalizing all input types often didn't make sense either. In this workflow, input documents are automatically converted to a single company standard like AFP for all further processing to be done in one common format. In the final stage of processing, those documents often must be converted back to their original format. A solution that avoided the redundant and time consuming steps was clearly preferred.
The Solution
It quickly becomes obvious why print service providers turned to DocBridge Pilot to resolve their formidable production issues.
DocBridge Pilot completely separates the document import function and the mail (or web) output function from one another: On the input side, all documents and output streams are first analyzed, and all relevant metadata is extracted. Information contained in the NOPs and TLEs from AFP datastreams, customer numbers, page information or barcode content is typically the source of the meatadata, which is then stored in a relational database. At this point, DocBridge Pilot assigns each document to a centralized document piece pool.
All further processing steps can be fully automated or manually initialized to run at a selected time by the user. For example, the user can enable the intelligent bundling of documents from different sources and formats into a single mail pieces as well as creating jobs based on any criteria and optimizing them for multi-channel dispatch.
When defining the outgoing mail piece requirements, a set of functions are configured for each job such as, white space management, sorting and conversion of documents into the required format, page enhancement with barcodes and the addition of logos, while also managing the finishing and insertion requirements. As this solution is not limited to production print, DocBridge Pilot's multi-channel capabilities can be utilized, so any job can serve all output channels including distributed delivery, e-mail, archiving and web portals.
Available for the most common platforms (Windows, Linux, AIX, Solaris, HP-UX, Unix, zLinux, zOS UNIX System Services) DocBridge Pilot offers a modular, structured toolbox where those required modules can be tailored for the specific customer solution.
With DocBridge Pilot, Compart has developed the solution architecture and functionality to meet the most stringent requirements of the print service provider. As it turned out, that was the simple explanation for the rapid adoption of DocBridge Pilot by service bureaus and PSPs.

TC3 Cut-Sheet Inkjet Digital Printing Challenges the Color Toner
ON DEMAND Session TC3 Cut-Sheet Inkjet Digital Printing Challenges the Color Toner Session March 4, 2008 1:40 pm – 2:30 pm Want to learn about inkjet technology and how it will impact the toner market? Attend the ON DEMAND session Cut-Sheet Inkjet Digital Printing Challenges the Color Toner co-presented by David Murphy, Vice President Marketing, RISO, Inc. and Mark Hickman, Distinguished Technologist, Imaging and Printing Group, HP. In the presentation, David Murphy will cover the primary differences between toner and inkjet technologies and the benefits of inkjet, specifically the HC5500, including rapid ROI, versatility, scalability, and cost efficiency of low capital investment with a long machine life. Below is a glance of what you can except to hear about the HC:
- Speed equals productivity
- at 120 ppm, the RISO HC5500 is the fastest cut-sheet color inkjet product on the market
- When compared to a 60-ppm MFP running a monthly volume of 40,000, the RISO would save the user 133 man-hours per year in printing time
- There is no warm-up time on the HC and 4-8 minutes on comparable toner-based competitors
- Faster print speed means more up-to-date content and quicker delivery to readers
- Low power consumption means lower operating cost
- At a maximum power consumption of less than 800W, the HC5500 requires less than one-tenth the electricity of most comparable toner-based MFPs
- Requiring only 110V, no special wiring is needed for 220V outlets, as is required by some market-leading color production printers
- With no heat emissions, air conditioning requirements are reduced. One data center customer replaced his monochrome production printers with RISO HC printers and reduced air conditioning usage by 12 tons
- Less heat emissions mean lower service costs
- Lighter weight, smaller footprint reduced ownership costs
- Small footprint is important in downtown office environments in high-value real estate markets
- Lighter weight means lower transportation costs for initial installation and subsequent relocations
- Lighter weight means lower materials costs, lower purchase price
- Inkjet operating cost is lower than toner/laser systems
- Consumables yield is higher CPC is lower
- Consumption-based light-coverage color cost on HC can be less than 1.5 cents, compared 4.5+ cents on a fixed CPC plan for closest competitor
- Inkjet imaging technology is more reliable and durable than toner-based imaging
- Monthly duty cycle on HC is 500,000, compared to 250,000 for most comparable toner-based competitors
- In BLI lab tests, toner-based competitors had 6-8 times more failures than HC
- HC printers have longer machine life, with expectations surpassing six million copies
- Versatility - HC can print 120 variable data envelopes per minute; MFPs can't
- Inkjet quality is acceptable to users for an increasing number of applications
- The majority of applications produced in workgroup environments are short-life documents that do not justify higher production costs
- Easier psychological transition for most user to covert B2C applications from one to three cents instead of one to five cents
- The “Rule of Two” applies to the HC when compared to production printers
- Two HCs can be purchased for less than the cost of one device with a comparable speed

Data Recognition Corporation Features Implementation of Elixir Correspondence System at On Demand 2008/Xplor Document University Session
VENTURA, CA - February 26, 2008 - Elixir Technologies Corporation, a leading developer of software for creating and managing high-value documents of all types, today announced that Data Recognition Corporation will be presenting their implementation of the Elixir Correspondence System at On Demand 2008.
Data Recognition Corporation representatives Kimberly Caywood, IS Manager - Document Services Division and John Bandy, Senior Director Application Development will co-host this presentation detailing how Data Recognition Corporation (DRC) is using the Elixir Correspondence System for dynamic letter generation for production print.
The web can deliver ROI for both the document stake holder and production operation. Value can be added to a variety of areas in the document workflow depending on the specific objectives. For DRC, the web based solution requirement came directly from a customer who wanted to streamline the entire document authoring, content creation, proofing, and production process. They wanted to enable business users to create and launch new document communications quickly and securely all while reducing their reliance on traditional document programming services and IT staff. The customer required the ability, via the web, to self maintain content at the document level and proof changes in real-time --- they required a system that provided the control necessary to ensure compliance and 100% accuracy and accountability. All without affecting the back-end production process or requiring intervention by DRC's programming staff.
Minnesota-based DRC provides a full suite of personalized document solutions from data processing to distribution and their customer's goals clearly pointed to the need for a web component in way of collaboration and workflow. DRC selected the Elixir Correspondence System which their customer uses today. The Elixir Correspondence System allows DRC to control the critical production aspects of the document life cycle while giving their customer the ability to control all content creation, changes, approvals, and proofing. Documents are created from templates eliminating the need for design expertise. Conditional logic and variable data aspects can also be defined and controlled. Users work with familiar tools to ensure ease of use and the internal workflow component provides an easy way to manage and control user access and approval processes. Compliance initiatives can be easily met as the system provides the ability to specify live dates for changes and the usage of new content. The Elixir Correspondence System is uniquely positioned allowing users to quickly and easily create, launch, and manage personalized document communications. DRC understood what the Elixir system could mean for their organization and today are capitalizing on new business acquisitions.

RSA's WebCRD Dynamics and Analytics Set to Steal the Show at On Demand 2008
Rochester, NY, February 25, 2008 - WebCRDTM, RSA's award-winning Portal to the Print CenterTM and 'Best of Show' at last year's On Demand trade show, is about to get even better. WebCRD has always offered the industry's fastest and most flexible job submission system along with the most automated production environment. WebCRD 7.0 delivers enterprise-wide, web-based access to the most automated Variable Data Printing system available plus numerous features including a powerful Reporting module.
WebCRD Dynamics is a sophisticated Variable Data Printing module that enables print shops to provide easy global or enterprise-wide access to the production of personalized and variable documents, such as postcards and brochures – designed and targeted for maximum appeal and effectiveness to each individual recipient. WebCRD Dynamics incorporates images and text in personalized printed documents from user-provided data files. WebCRD Dynamics uses rules to select text and images for customized printed documents that are designed to maximize marketing effectiveness. WebCRD accepts templates generated using FusionPro’s Designer or Desktop plug-in for Adobe Acrobat and InDesign as well as QuarkXPress. Templates can have powerful business rules, built either via a friendly GUI or directly in JavaScript. In addition to providing variable data printing that appears fluid and natural, WebCRD Dynamics can print text on a curve, drop shadow, and other effects. Templates are uploaded by the designer to WebCRD for web-based access by any end users.
Users of WebCRD Dynamics select a template and upload a simple .CSV database file containing the data to be included in each customized document. The powerful WebCRD Dynamics engine automatically generates personalized content, with output in industry standard formats, including PDF, PostScript, VDX, PPML, HP PPML, JLYT, Digimaster PS, VIPP, and VPS. The scalable WebCRD Dynamics server can accommodate tens of thousands of records per job.
Unlike competing storefronts where the print center operator must manually open up the template and apply variable data using a proprietary application, WebCRD Dynamics generates the proof automatically on the server. No operator intervention is required! WebCRD Dynamics delivers a truly hands-free, lights-out variable data production print center.
“WebCRD was honored as the Best of Show in Workflow Solutions at On Demand 2007,” recalled Tim Kelly, Sr. Vice President at RSA. “As great as WebCRD is, we are always looking for ways to improve our solution to better fit the needs of our customer. We are excited that WebCRD Dynamics leapfrogs the competition. RSA continues to deliver on the promise of automating high volume enterprise production print centers, and now that includes variable data printing.”
WebCRD Analytics is the second of the newest modules being announced in WebCRD 7.0. WebCRD Analytics delivers powerful and flexible enterprise reporting and analysis with the ease and flexibility to view reports, charts, and even raw data extracts. Print shop managers can now easily view, save, and print professionally designed reports such as Cost Analysis, Item Summary, Usage, and Service Level Agreements in popular output options including PDF, HTML, Excel, Rich text format, or plain text. The typical RSA customer reports increases in print volume of 50% to 300% as a result of adopting WebCRD.
The Analytics Module can be used to measure customer performance while providing the ability to view data combinations that allow for more accurate planning and scheduling for print center operations. The Dashboard report alone provides the print shop manager with a daily or monthly view of all jobs within production to best plan manpower and resources. WebCRD Analytics enables proactive planning that quickly takes the place of the reactive problem solving.
There have been many additional enhancements provided in WebCRD 7.0 including Advanced Job Cost Estimating (AJCE). AJCE enables flexible volume and customer based pricing plans for different types of users and multi-site operations. Credit Card authorization is also a module for WebCRD 7.0, adding to Purchase Order and Account Code as viable payment options for all orders. Added functionality includes the ability to allow customers across an enterprise read-only access to a complete and up-to-date global directory/address book maintained by their administrator and the ability to upload a personal address book for a users own access.
WebCRD and RSA's additional workflow solutions are available from leading printer equipment vendors. RSA will be exhibiting at the On Demand Trade Show in Boston, March 4th – 6th, 2008 in booth 625 .

Konica Minolta Recognized as #1 Brand for Customer Loyalty in the MFP Office Copier Market
Brand Keys Customer Loyalty Engagement Index Rates Konica Minolta Best in 2008
– Visit Us at On Demand Booth #916 –
Ramsey, N.J. – March 4, 2008 – Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta), a leading provider of advanced imaging and networking technologies for the desktop to the print shop, today announced that it was awarded first place in the 2008 Brand Keys Customer Loyalty Engagement Index in the “MFP Office Copier” category. Each year New York-based marketing consultancy Brand Keys publishes its Customer Loyalty Engagement Index, which surveys 24,000+ adult Americans to determine how brands rank in customer loyalty.
Brand Keys research identified Konica Minolta as number one in the “MFP Office Copier” category for the first time this year based upon the company’s ability to engage consumers and create loyal customers when measured against the "ideal" office copier. The Brand Keys data paints a detailed picture of the category drivers that engage customers, engender loyalty and drive real profits. Brand Keys formulates the “Ideal” for the category by asking respondents to characterize their perfect product – MFP, major sports league, computer, pizza, etc. The result – the category “Ideal” – sets the standard for excellence within the category.
“Konica Minolta is honored to be recognized as the top office copier manufacturer for the first time by Brand Keys, which validates our dedication to serving our growing customer base with advanced imaging and networking technologies," said Kevin P. Kern, vice president, marketing and product planning, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. "This award shows that our award-winning bizhub™, magicolor® and pagepro™ brands are ranked highest in the category for meeting customer expectations, and further intensifies our commitment to providing the highest quality technology solutions for our customers and business partners.”
“At a time when providers and services are fast turning into “category placeholders”, it is a testament to the vitality of the Konica Minolta brand that they are able to engender these levels of loyalty,” noted Robert Passikoff, Brand Keys founder and president. “With loyalty comes both preference and profits and we offer our congratulations to Konica Minolta for this success.”
Brand Keys can accurately predict which products and services people will buy in the coming 18 to 24 months. Since the early 1980s, Brand Keys has been developing and refining a proprietary customer-listening system that goes beyond traditional methodology, providing clients with measures that show where their brand equity lies, and what customers are thinking about. The full results of the research may also be viewed at www.brandkeys.com.

Kyocera Offers Dealers in North America and Latin America Device-Embedded Print Management Solutions to Complement Award-Winning Line of Multifunctional Products
AIIM Conference & Expo 2008
Booth #947
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kyocera Mita America, one of the world's leading document solutions companies, and Equitrac Corporation, the leader in intelligent cost recovery and print management solutions worldwide, announced today a distribution agreement where Kyocera will resell Equitrac Embedded™ integrated solutions for Equitrac Office® and Equitrac Express® for its KM-5050, KM-4050 and KM-3050 multifunctional products (MFPs). This agreement provides Equitrac increased visibility for its trusted-brand of print management solutions for the general office and education markets, respectively, into Kyocera’s channel, and enables Kyocera to increase dealer opportunities by supporting a greater range of value-added solutions to complement its highly-recognized line of reliable MFPs.
Through this arrangement, Kyocera dealers have the opportunity to offer both Equitrac Office and Equitrac Express as device-embedded solutions for Kyocera’s MFP line; enabling end-users the opportunity to reduce total printing costs and optimize equipment deployment. This is achieved through greater MFP authorization, authentication and accounting via a customized Kyocera MFP touch screen interface.
A key component to both solutions is the Equitrac Follow-You Printing™ embedded application, which provides business assurance that all MFP activity and end-user data is properly authorized and automatically captured, further simplifying regulatory compliance and cost accounting.
Additionally, with the Follow-You Printing application, Kyocera dealers can offer enhanced document security as documents are printed through a centrally managed server, and then securely released from the print queue when the document is authenticated at the designated printer of choice.
“This agreement poses a win-win for both organizations, as Equitrac has the opportunity to further extend its reach into the market by working with Kyocera Mita America dealers and end-users,” said Michael Rich, CEO, Equitrac. “For Kyocera Mita America, end-users of its popular MFPs with the Equitrac Embedded solutions will gain a simplified print management approach with enhanced document security, as they gain greater control over the printing process.”
“Core to our channel strategy is to provide our dealer network with best-in-class solutions to ensure a value-added sales opportunity in every business lead they venture into,” said Michael Pietrunti, president and CEO, Kyocera Mita America. “By forming a relationship with Equitrac, we believe our dealers are better equipped for the solutions-oriented sale — offering highly-reliable MFPs from Kyocera, and quality print management solutions from Equitrac.”
The Kyocera MFPs compatible with the Equitrac Embedded solutions include select models from Kyocera’s line of monochrome MFPs: the KM-5050 (50 page-per-minute - ppm), KM-4050 (40 ppm) and KM-3050 (30 ppm). These user-friendly products, based on award-winning technology and reliability, are a strong complement to the Equitrac Embedded software offerings as they are designed to improve workplace performance and productivity, improve security and simplify day-to-day tasks.
The Equitrac Embedded software is designed for different markets. Equitrac Office meets the needs of today’s enterprise, government or small-to-medium businesses and Equitrac Embedded software for Equitrac Express has been designed specifically to meet the print, copy, scan and fax requirements for educational institutions or library facilities.

More Color Print Volume Means More Business, Profit for Xerox iGen3 Digital Production Press Customers
New image quality and finishing enhancements provide greater color accuracy and productivity for flagship digital press
ON DEMAND Conference & Expo 2008 - Booth No. 1449
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With 126 Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) customers worldwide now printing 1 million or more pages per month per machine on their iGen3® Digital Production Presses, Xerox continues to help customers boost their sales in the lucrative digital color printing market, where more pages mean more profit. One customer has even eclipsed 3 million pages in a single month on a single iGen3 press. The average monthly print volume on the Xerox iGen3 press is now 500,000 pages. Building on this success, Xerox is launching new features for the iGen3 press that provide even greater image quality and productivity.
Since its launch in 2002, the Xerox iGen3 press – which runs at 90 or 110 pages per minute – has helped businesses large and small create a wide-variety of applications and generate profitable color pages. Xerox continues to be the leader in color page volume with color pages growing more than 30 percent from 2006 to 2007.
“The iGen3 press is a key factor contributing to the redefinition of the digital production color market. It has been a catalyst for growth in digital color pages, many of which complement offset output in printing environments that rely on both technologies,” said Riley McNulty, research manager, Production and Large Format Printing Markets at IDC, a global provider of market intelligence and advisory services. “The iGen3 press continues to receive well-deserved attention for its market-making innovative technology, productivity and image quality.”
Valued at $68 billion in 2007, the global digital printing market opportunity for print providers is expected to double by 2012 according to industry consultancy Pira International. There are now more than 2,000 Xerox iGen3 presses installed worldwide, with 275 customers having installed two or more iGen3 presses to meet their increased demand for full-color jobs, such as marketing brochures, photo books, catalogs, personalized direct-mail pieces and invoices and statements that include customized marketing messages. For an increasingly environmentally conscious world, printing on demand has the advantage of creating jobs only in the quantity and at the time needed, reducing waste and inventory space.
Digital success with iGen3 presses
Mercury Print Productions, a commercial print and media solutions provider, operates six iGen3 presses at its facilities in Rochester, N.Y. The company’s first two iGen3 presses have produced a total of 120 million pages since they were installed less than five years ago. Three of the company’s iGen3 presses are equipped with Lasermax Roll Systems and Xerox FreeFlow® Application Series Software for Teacher’s Edition textbooks, a book solution that provides a cost-effective way of printing state- and region-specific textbooks. These presses each produce more than 1 million pages per month. A fourth iGen3 press – equipped with Teacher’s Edition software and the extended sheet size of 14.33" x 22.5" – runs covers used in case binding and also for the book blocks themselves and produces 400,000 to 600,000 covers per month.
“The iGen3 presses fueled our digital printing success and have been the foundation of our digital color print production,” said John Place, chief executive officer, Mercury Print Productions. “We have become an industry leader in the production of digital books for the education market and continue to produce full-color marketing materials, brochures, posters and direct-mail pieces at an incredible rate.”
Immediate Mailing Services, Inc., an integrated service bureau, installed its first digital system, an iGen3 110 press with Xerox FreeFlow DocuSP® 5.1 Print Controller, in June 2007 and prints 600,000 pages per month. The company uses its press to produce transactional-promotional documents, postcards, newsletters, coupons and mail inserts. IMS creates direct-mail marketing campaigns with multiple touch-points for clients nationwide. IMS is part of Xerox’s Graphic Arts Premier Partner Program, a global community of close to 700 leading digital print providers.
“We selected the iGen3 press because of its image quality and speed. Combine that with its ability to print variable data on mixed substrates and you have an amazing combination,” said Paul Macor, vice president of sales and marketing, Immediate Mailing Services. “Xerox’s knowledge of the industry, the partnership programs it offers, and the technology and sales support the company provides really made it stand above competitive offerings.”
Macor said the ability to expand their services and turn jobs around in 24 hours has helped them grow their business, especially with clients whose rates, offers and promotions change rapidly and require fast response times.
New product enhancements
Xerox’s award-winning iGen3 press is even more productive with the introduction of a new image quality enhancement and a finishing option that creates professional books and manuals automatically.
International Color Consortium DeviceLink Profiling is an enhancement to Xerox’s Automated Color Quality tool for Xerox iGen3 presses. It builds custom RGB and CMYK color profiles real-time during the initial job set-up using an in-line spectrophotometer for faster processing and greater color accuracy. ICC specifications are widely used in the printing industry.
The C.P. Bourg Bleed Crease Module is a new optional accessory for the in-line C.P. Bourg Document Finisher (BDFx) offered on the Xerox iGen3 presses. It produces a professional saddle-stitched booklet with a clean, tight fold and supports the same wide variety of paper stocks as the BDFx, including coated stock and cover sheets. It expands the capability of the BDFx by adding the ability to full-bleed trim and crease printed sheets before they are stapled, folded and face trimmed, which increases productivity and produces higher quality finished documents.
Pricing and availability
International Color Consortium DeviceLink Profiling is available on all iGen3 presses equipped with the Xerox FreeFlow® Print Server 6.0.
The C.P. Bourg Bleed Crease Module is immediately available in North America at a U.S. manufacturer's list price of $47,500 including hardware, installation and operator training.
Xerox launched these new features during the annual On Demand Conference and Exposition, a major event for the document imaging industry held here this week.

XMPie Gets Personal with a New Look, Products at On Demand
XMPie’s fresh new look highlights the faces of one-to-one marketing
ON DEMAND Conference & Expo 2008
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--XMPie®, Inc., the leading provider of software for dynamic publishing, is revealing its fresh, new look for the first time at next week’s On Demand Conference and Exposition in Boston. XMPie’s new appearance shines a spotlight on personalization and the connections made through one-to-one marketing, while demonstrating the vibrant energy driving XMPie forward.
“The excitement at XMPie is palpable,” said Jacob Aizikowitz, president, XMPie, Inc. “We experienced incredible growth last year, launched two new products and enhanced our current software line to empower our customers with tools that deliver powerful, attention-stealing, one-to-one variable-data and cross-media marketing communications. To top it off, we are celebrating our success with a new look that projects the unique blend of personalization, creativity and media that is the hallmark of what we are bringing to the industry.”
The new look hits at the heart of what XMPie delivers — personal, one-to-one connections. The use of faces throughout XMPie’s visual pieces is a metaphor for personalization. There are few things as personal or as one-of-a-kind as a person’s face. This imagery conveys that XMPie’s solutions deliver one-to-one marketing communications that can be as unique as an individual recipient. Additionally, the vibrant and dimensional “waves” that run throughout the company’s materials further signify connections — those that the company has with its users, those its users have with their customers and those that XMPie’s solutions enable.
Beyond the new look, visitors to XMPie’s booth (#517) at On Demand will see demonstrations focused on the three pillars of XMPie’s product line— (1) highly creative, variable print, (2) new cross-media interactive communications including the integration of one-to-one publishing and one-to-one marketing into one highly efficient, effective marketing solution, and (3) personalized Web-to-print solutions enabling these unique capabilities to be displayed on self-served, Web-based marketing and e-commerce portals.
Highlights of what On Demand attendees will experience in the booth include:
- The XMPie Marketplace, an online resource designed to support users in the creation of personalized marketing materials. It features a uStore®-based e-commerce Web site offering a library of creatively designed uImage® templates available for purchase and download by uImage users.

Highly Automated Bulk Fanfold System Shown by Lasermax Roll Systems at On Demand 08
Burlington, MA (March 3, 2008) - The Lasermax Roll Systems RS Fanfold HS system is being shown in a pair of locations at this week's On Demand show in Boston, a highlight of the extensive Lasermax Roll Systems presence around the On Demand exhibit floor. RS Fanfold HS is an in-line bulk fanfolding solution for high-speed continuous digital printers, featuring the new RSF5 Folder. Visitors to the show will see the system building vertical stacks of fanfold forms up to 39" high in both the Lasermax Roll Systems booth (#1267) and the Océ booth (#1217).
At the Lasermax Roll Systems booth, the RSF5 Folder is being shown running a two-up statement application. Thread-up, forms size changes and stack ejection are all automatic. The folder runs pinless or pinfed paper, at speeds up to 700 feet per minute. Tall stacks allow both long printer and inserter runs with a minimum of operator attention required. A small footprint allows use of the RS Fanfold HS even in crowded print rooms. The Lasermax Roll Systems Web Vision system is running in-line with the RS Fanfold HS. Web Vision uses high-resolution cameras to scan the full web width to capture very large, high quality images to enable automated analysis of data integrity, workflow processes and image quality.
Also in the Lasermax Roll booth, an RS Stack solution is producing 3-up book blocks suitable for near-line binding. The RS Stack system shown includes Strip Cut option, which economically cuts and removes a variable length strip of paper between sheets. Strip cut enables removal of registration marks or perforations, or the creation of bleed sheets.
In the Océ booth, RS Fanfold HS provides pre- and post-processing for the new Océ VarioStream® 8750 printing system.
Elsewhere around the show floor, the DocuSheeter NV cuts and feeds sheets from a roll to the new Xerox Nuvera(tm) 288 in the Xerox booth (#1449). DocuSheeter NV maximizes productivity for this high-speed cut sheet printer, feeding 60,000 sheets or more from a single 50" diameter roll for hours of non-stop operation with minimal operator attention.
In the InfoPrint Solutions booth (#647), an LX Stack cuts and stacks printed output from an InfoPrint® 4100 MD1/MD2 digital printing system. LX Stack handles 1-up, 2-up, 2-up merged or 3-up streams of sheets in basis weights as light as 11# bond (40 gsm).
In the Screen booth (#457), Screen's new Truepress Jet520 color inkjet variable printing system is partnered with the LX Roll-to-Roll.
In the CP Bourg booth (#1249), LX Saddle Stitch partners with the IBIS Smart-binder to produce saddle-stitched booklets from roll paper, demonstrating a complete in-line booklet binding system available for continuous digital printers.
Lasermax Roll Systems is the worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and sale of automated paper handling and vision-based production & quality control systems for digital print production. Its products are sold and serviced in over 50 countries.
Solimar Announces New Rubika™ Functionality Including IMB Support at On Demand Conference
New Enhancements Increase Postal Efficiencies and Lower Rates
SAN DIEGO, CA - February 27, 2008 - Solimar Systems, Inc., a leading global provider of production printing and secure document delivery solutions, today announced new functionality of Rubika™ Version 2.02, a modular document re-engineering solution. Rubika™ has been designed to solve many problems associated with leveraging high volume transactional print and online viewing environments by modifying data streams to automate manual processes, enabling postal savings, adding value to documents and leveraging finishing equipment.
Rubika v2.02 adds support for the 2009 barcode requirement called the Intelligent Mail® Barcode (IMB) also called OneCode or the 4-State Barcode. Companies and mail houses are required to implement IMB by January 2009 to qualify for the lowest postal rates.
“With Rubika, barcodes get dynamically applied on documents at the time of print,” states Mary Ann Rowan, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Solimar Systems. “This saves clients valuable time and money by centralizing their barcode creation, eliminating the need to recode all the original business applications, and tracking their workflow processes to ensure integrity.”
In addition to IMB support, highlights of the new Rubika functionality include:
- Book Block Module with many options for POD applications
- 2-up Module with Sequential and Stacked options
- N to 1 Module reverses order of pages including individual reports in a job
- Variable options in Data Import/Export Module
- Enhanced User Interface (UI) and drop-down menus
“Before Rubika arrived on the market it was impossible to perform document re-engineering without intricate and difficult scripting. Rubika changes all that. With an intuitive UI and drop-down menus, Rubika does not require scripting or complex programming to operate. When Rubika is combined with Solimar's SOLfusion™ product, workflow streamlining is taken to the next level by automating multiple Rubika steps dynamically. Our clients are thrilled to see manual processes go away,” states Rowan.
The Solimar product line allows thousands of organizations around the world to easily expand and control their enterprise production print processes by providing robust data transforms, device optimizations and print stream re-engineering and repurposing. Building on a history of successful technology development, Rubika v2.02, scheduled for general availability in March 2008, further demonstrates Solimar’s continued commitment to delivering powerful output management solutions for its clients.

Presstek to Demonstrate Automated On Demand Digital Offset Solutions
Presstek 52DI® and 34DI® presses address fastest growing segment of on demand print market, filling strategic gap between toner-based and conventional offset printing
Hudson, NH – February 26, 2008 – Presstek Inc., the leading manufacturer and marketer of digital offset printing business solutions, will showcase its industry-leading Presstek 52DI and 34DI presses at the upcoming On Demand Conference and Expo, March 4 to 6, 2008, at the Boston Convention Center (Booth #441).
“The On Demand show attracts printers who are looking for a more effective way to address four color printing in the 250 to 10,000 run length range,” said Mark Levin, President, Americas Region. “Our Presstek DI presses are uniquely suited to address this profitable market opportunity which can be difficult to produce competitively using other technologies. We look forward to speaking to printers at the On Demand Expo about how our 52DI and 34DI presses can help them competitively serve this fastest growing print market segment.”
Presstek-branded DI presses offer a competitive advantage in the fastest growing segment of the short-run on-demand print market. Job profitability is 13 percent higher on a DI compared to a conventional press, and compared to a production color toner-based digital device, the DI press saves 50 percent on average per letter-size page, according to research firm InfoTrends. These easy-to-use, environmentally friendly digital offset presses produce more jobs in less time with their highly automated functions and operating speed of up to 20,000 letter-size pages per hour—offering all-digital workflow efficiency with offset printing versatility and quality. All four plates are imaged on press in precise registration, and with automated ink management, the press delivers consistent color, from page to page and job to job.
Hybrid Workflow
“DI presses serve a wide range of market needs. Not only do they fill the strategic gap for certain types of jobs,” added Levin, “they also allow smaller commercial printers to compete with larger printers on quality and turnaround time. In addition, larger shops are adding DI presses to enhance the efficiency and profitability of their large format presses by offloading short runs to the DI press. For digital shops, DI presses enable the cost effective production of longer runs on a wider range of substrates than are functional with toner-based digital devices. They are able to implement high quality offset printing without the complexity of the conventional offset process, and without the need for a highly skilled offset press operator.”
Personalization at a Lower Cost
For high quality personalized printing at the lowest cost, users can print high quality offset shells using the Presstek DI and then overprint using a toner-based or inkjet device. The Presstek 52DI’s stream feeder can be adjusted to handle envelopes of the letter size, expanding the range of high-impact personalized materials that can be produced using this hybrid methodology. Capabilities are further expanded with the DI’s ability to print on substrates ranging from onion skin to heavy card stock; including plastics and magnetic paper. Superior quality printing is produced with up to 300 lpi and FM screening—without incurring additional time or expense.

Xeikon will have valuable demonstration tools at its booth to highlight the business proposition behind each of these applications.
According to Michael V. Ring, CMO and VP-Business Development, Xeikon/Punch Graphix Americas, "The Xeikon platform is uniquely positioned to meet the needs of the high-end digital color market space.
