Momentum Building For One-to-One QR

By Joe Barber, Chief QR Officer at the CodeZQR division of Computer Output Print & Internet (COPI)

CodeZ QR was voted Most Innovative Solution at the 2008 Print & Imaging Summit.

In my column following the Print & Imaging Summit I mentioned the excitement and buzz surrounding one-to-one communications and CodeZ QR at the Summit. As I now write almost two months later I can safely say that the excitement is even greater today.

In my conversations with attendees from the Summit and other organizations since there has been an incredible wave of momentum building towards the CodeZ QR value proposition.  There are now over 100 prominent companies in the world that have either launched one-to-one QR campaigns or have plans working too launch them in 2009.

This is incredible when you consider that a year ago:

·         No major US cellular carrier supported QR Code readers,

·         No major campaigns had been launched outside of the Pacific Rim,

·         Most people had not even heard of QR Codes.

Compare that with today’s environment:

·        Sprint has now made QR readers available to all subscribers,

·         Google released Zxing (Zebra Crossing), their open source QR reader,

·         Apple made QR readers available for their I-Phones,

·         T-Mobile announced QR readers for the Google phone,

·         Global mobile phone users surpassed 4 billion per the United Nations,

·         US mobile phone subscribers surpassed 260 million,

·         US cell phone penetration rate reached 86+%,

·         Over 80% of all new handsets have cameras,

·         Major QR campaigns were launched by firms such as:

o    Ralph Lauren,

o    Ford,

o    Kia,

o    Pepsi

These leaders and innovators are demanding a proven, stable, and easy to implement solution.  They want a system which, like CodeZ QR, can insure the security of the demographic data that is encoded.  They need a solution that allows them to connect recipients directly to their destination rather than being locked in to using a service provider’s servers to redirect them to the target destination.

In this light it is easy to see why the CodeZ QR wave of momentum and excitement has continued to build and why it is likely to continue to do so right through the 2009 Print & Imaging Summit.
