Fonts And Barcodes

The purpose of Fraser's column is to educate the high volume transaction industry on the value of automatic identification on their documents. Specifically, the column will focus on current barcoding techniques, whether linear on 2D, as well as emerging developments in the Automatic ID industry.

2D Codes and Document Security

By Fraser Ross

Question – What do I need to do to secure my documents?

Answer – There has been much discussion lately about document security.

Many applications call for document security. As a matter of fact, there is an entire industry that concerns itself with securing a document. This industry builds such secure devices as holograms embedded in the paper, pantographs that cause security flags if a document if photocopied, micro-text lines, embedded fibers and special chemically treated paper that is detectable if counterfeited and many other devices.

In the HVTO industry, many of these devices would be cost-prohibitive because of sheer volumes of paper. We concern ourselves with fraud and forgery often by quality control. Quite frankly, this is not much better than no security at all.

This is why at COPI we have researched possible methods of adding verification and authentication to documents without adding a tremendous cost to the on-going printing process.

We have come up with an elegant and simple method of adding security using the existing print technology using 2D barcodes and digital signature technology.

This method offers the user a wide and flexible tool to customize their security requirements by selectively choosing what and how their information is to be secured, while making use of standard encryptions techniques.

The advantage of this to any user is that this high level of security, which we call ‘On-Document Authentication’, is then available to the printed or not printed document.

Please call me to discuss how.
