Transpromo Gets a Name (and What That Signals)

By Denise Davert, Elixir

Many OutputLinks contributors have summarized it succinctly. transpromo, or known to some by its full name, transpromotional, is not new. The idea, the tools, and even the techniques for transpromo have been around for quite some time. It’s just now the industry has given it a name.

But giving it a name is more than sheer recognition of the concept. It’s a signal to business in general that this communication technique has value and some key milestones were achieved prior to adopting the term into our business vernacular.

Here are some of the major landmarks that transpromo achieved in 2008.

-      The success rate of transpromo was officially measured and published by analysts, customers and others.

-      The tools to efficiently design transpromo became available across a range of platforms including some that support web-based workflow thus allowing the software used to integrate into a wider range of business applications.

-      The range of software application options that enable transpromo gave way to a wider range of pricing models allowing easier entry to small/medium business.

-      The data conversion tools needed to access multiple disparate databases and bring them into a single uniform format now integrate easily into the transpromo document formatting process.

What are some signs that transpromo has gone beyond a buzzword and become the buzz?

Transpromo is specifically making its way into the RFP process with companies formally stating that it’s a corporate directive for the coming year. So, all the marketing hype you’re experiencing (including mine!) is in direct response to a clear understanding from business as to what transpromo is and how it can be valuable.

But if you don’t believe me, check out Wikipedia.
