Books on Demand GmbH Relies on Xerox Nuvera 288 and Xerox iGen3
Xerox has equipped Books on Demand GmbH, a provider of book production and distribution for publishers, authors and other content providers, with Xerox iGen3 Digital Production Presses and Xerox Nuvera 288 EA Perfecting Production Presses for digital book production.

With 180,000 available titles, Books on Demand GmbH is the European market and technology leader for digitally printed books. In 2009, more than two million books were digitally printed on its Xerox systems.
“Publishers require that digital book production has the same quality as offset printing,” says Dr. Moritz Hagenmüller, CEO of Books on Demand GmbH. “That is our benchmark.”

The printing technology from Xerox matches well with Books on Demand GmbH stringent customer requirements. The Xerox iGen3 prints color pages and covers on stocks up to a weight of 350 g / m². A consistently high image quality and precise spot colors are delivered using an inline spectrophotometer that automates the color calibration and recalibration. The Xerox iGen3 prints on coated, uncoated, structured and smooth papers and stocks. It also features the largest single-sheet format of all digital printing systems (364 x 571 mm) allowing for the creation of a large number of different book formats.
Black-and-white book pages are printed on the Xerox Nuvera 288. The system provides the required productivity for effective book production by printing at 288 pages per minute. Boosting productivity further, the system can even print during maintenance using pass-through programming, where one of the two printing units continues to print at 144 pages per minute while the other is down. EA (Emulsion Aggregation) Toner, developed by Xerox, helps achieve offset quality with finer lines, finer details and even with a smooth matte finish.

"The trend in the book market towards smaller runs continues relentlessly. Digital printing provides a sensible, efficient alternative to offset printing for the economic production of small quantities of books. said Christoph Glatzel, Operations Director at Xerox Global Services. “We endeavor to successfully support Books on Demand GmbH business by continually providing them with industry-leading technologies."
