Xerox Expands its Leading High-Speed Black-and-White Line of Printers; Ideal for Lucrative, Short-Run, Print-on-Demand Jobs
PHILADELPHIA, March 31, 2009 – Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) today announced a new black-and-white digital press that opens revenue opportunities in lucrative markets such as transactional/promotional materials and short-run book publishing.
Printing at 200 images per minute, the Xerox Nuvera® 200 EA Perfecting Production System gives print providers a competitive advantage with productivity and image quality. It excels at producing high-volume applications that require precise fine-line detail, high image quality and sharp halftones such as technical manuals, bills/statements and books.
The Xerox Nuvera 200 EA system is built on the award-winning Xerox Nuvera 288 EA Perfecting Production System platform. At a resolution of 4800 x 600 dots per inch and 156 lines per inch, it uses Xerox’s patented chemically-grown Emulsion Aggregation Toner, which provides a smooth matte finish that is comparable with the image quality of offset.
The SpencerLab Digital Color Laboratory compared the image quality of the Xerox Nuvera 288 EA system – which offers the same image quality as the Xerox Nuvera 200 EA system – with a competitive digital black-and-white system and a sheet-fed offset press.
“The overall print quality of the Xerox Nuvera system for target market applications surpassed its digital competitor and was fully competitive with offset quality, sometimes even exceeding it,” said David Spencer, SpencerLab's president and CEO. “Our tests found the Xerox Nuvera system images had better depth, contrast and sharpness, with print quality closer to offset than that of the digital competitor.”
The Xerox Nuvera 200 EA system runs two-sided prints twice as fast by leveraging the power of two print engines in tandem that are designed and managed as one system. A benefit of this design is “Pass through Programming” that keeps the system running even if one of the engines needs service, providing maximum productivity and uptime.
Xerox’s Nuvera family of production systems, spanning from 100 to 288 images per minute, delivers high-quality prints and increases productivity. The Xerox Nuvera 200 EA system produces offset quality images and runs a wide range of media types. These systems are very modular and can be configured with a multitude of in-line feeding and finishing options including roll feeding and booklet making, perfect binding and coil binding.
Other key features include:
- a sheet enhancement module which assists in sheet flatness to improve stack quality and finishing performance;
- Xerox FreeFlow® Print Server which enables variable data and high-resolution graphics at powerful processing speeds;
- Xerox FreeFlow Variable Information Suite which features security options that assist in printing applications such as ID badges, tickets and coupons.
Xerox is also introducing a new finisher to its in-line portfolio, the GBC® eBinder 200. It takes printed pages from any Xerox Nuvera printer and stacks, registers, punches, and inserts a plastic comb to automatically bind at the rated speed of the print engine. The binder produces “lay flat” books that range in size from two to 100 sheets and offers an attractive alternative to traditional finishing options. The GBC eBinder 200 is immediately available in North America and worldwide later this year.
“In today’s business environment, print professionals are looking for solutions including print engines and workflow that can make them more efficient and effective,” said Jerry Murray, vice president, Product Marketing, Xerox Corporation. “The Xerox Nuvera 200 EA system’s productivity, innovation, finishing and workflow options give print providers maximum results from their investment.”
On Demand 2009, Booth No. 2000
Xerox will showcase the Xerox Nuvera 200 EA system at On Demand, a major event for the document imaging industry, March 31 through April 2 in Philadelphia. It will be configured with the new GBC eBinder 200, the Bourg PowerSquare 200 and the Xerox Nuvera Tape Binder.
Availability
The Xerox Nuvera 200 EA Perfecting Production System is available worldwide in April through Xerox sales representatives.

Highlights at this year’s show include:
Production Solutions
Since its introduction in 2006, Canon’s award-winning imagePRESS line has helped print service providers and marketing service organizations automate their workflows and expand their business offerings by providing high-quality digital presses that can be configured to meet individual business’ needs. Building upon the success of the Canon imagePRESS C7000VP and imagePRESS C6000 – both of which will be on display at the show – Canon will also showcase the imagePRESS C1+, which utilizes a clear toner station, and announce the availability of the imagePRESS 1135/1125/1110 Black and White Digital Presses.
The addition of the Canon imagePRESS C1+ and the imagePRESS 1135/1125/1110 Black and White Digital Presses, both introduced during Graph Expo 2008, will expand the capabilities and reach of the imagePRESS product line. The imagePRESS C1+, designed for the graphic and creative markets, is the first device of its size and speed to offer a clear toner station, greatly expanding the design elements and features that can be included in prints.
The Canon imagePRESS 1135/1125/1110 Black and White Digital Presses combines Canon’s wealth of knowledge in monochrome printing with the successful core architecture and reliability of the imagePRESS line to offer a highly customizable black-and-white digital press. Through utilizing Canon’s unique Twin Sleeve Technology, the imagePRESS 1135/1125/1110 produces monochrome prints at a quality level never before seen in an electrophotographic device. By offering an extremely versatile and customizable black-and-white digital press, the imagePRESS 1135/1125/1110 Black and White Digital Press allows printers to more effectively manage their customers’ printing needs while streamlining workflow and project management in a more cost effective manner.
In addition to the Canon imagePRESS 1135/1125/1110 Black and White Digital Presses, the latest version of the imageWARE Prepress Manager, a comprehensive document and production workflow tool, was introduced. Building upon imageWARE Prepress Manager's ease-of-use and integration with imagePRESS devices, imageWARE Prepress Manager v1.3 includes improved chapter manipulation and job subsetting abilities, as well as functionality specific to the new imagePRESS 1135/1125/1110. imageWARE Prepress Manager can be combined with the updated imageWARE Print Job Manager to create an efficient print center with the imagePRESS 1135/1125/1110. Print Job Manager v1.2 allows users to manage printing tasks, utilize the functions to send jobs to the imagePRESS, as well as monitoring and controlling jobs and printers. imageWARE Prepress Manager enables printers to spend less time learning how to impose and configure print settings for a document and more time producing books, manuals, brochures, proposals, and other mission-critical documents for their customers.
Corporate Solutions
With a wide array of business solutions for both large and small enterprises, Canon helps address customer and industry specific needs in the marketplace. During this year’s show, Canon will showcase its popular imagePROGRAF iPF8000S, which utilizes eight LUCIA pigment inks to offer an extremely wide color gamut, and the imagePROGRAF iPF820, which address the document production needs of medium to large-sized corporations and reprographic establishments. InfoPrint Showcases Solutions to Drive Customer Revenues at OnDemand 2009
Combining Education and Flexible Solutions to Adapt Customers’ Infrastructures to Current Economic Pressures
PHILADELPHIA, PA., March 30, 2009 – InfoPrint Solutions Company, a joint venture between IBM and Ricoh, today announces its lineup of market-leading solutions for the commercial print industry to be shown at booth 1824# at OnDemand 2009, from March 30th to April 2nd 2009.
InfoPrint will showcase solutions from its comprehensive portfolio including its suite of TransPromo Solutions; Print On Demand (POD) technologies for high quality, high speed monochrome and color output to reduce book production costs and improve productivity; and Automated Document Factory (ADF), designed to solve the challenges of postal optimization and mailroom integrity.
These will run on InfoPrint printers such as the recently launched InfoPrint Pro C900. This color cutsheet platform bridges the mid-range gap between production machines such as the full-color drop-on-demand InfoPrint 5000 and monochrome InfoPrint 4100, and the company’s existing cutsheet portfolio. It also enables the creation of dynamic digital output which is ideal for in-plant and print-for-pay customers with monthly volumes of 50,000 to 240,000 pages. At OnDemand, the InfoPrint 100 will also be on display. This is one of InfoPrint’s latest continuous forms digital output solutions, providing high throughput and integrity for companies who print client invoices, direct marketing mailings, labels and distribution center picking slips.
“InfoPrint continues to work with our clients to bring them the offerings and information they need to grow revenues and respond to current market conditions, all while creating sustainable, cost-effective output,” said Sandra Zoratti, Vice President, Global Marketing Manager at InfoPrint. “Ensuring our clients are learning about the latest techniques is a key part of that drive. Through initiatives such as our Meet the Experts program, we continue to educate and promote innovative implementation techniques for today’s environment.”
InfoPrint’s Print On Demand (POD) workflow solution will be on show at GraphExpo 2009. This cover and book block workflow system includes web-to-print ordering, pre-press automation, imposition and output management. InfoPrint strategic partner iWay will demonstrate automated cover and book block flow, with imposition from Ultimate and scanning from IOFlex. This software is used in a production environment conjunction with machines such as the InfoPrint 4100, a continuous forms printer that produces high quality monochrome output that is typically only available using cutsheet solutions. The InfoPrint 4100 also delivers some of the highest speeds currently on the market for electrophotographic printers and allows for the production of more output with less operator time.
TransPromo is a key part of the InfoPrint portfolio and the OnDemand team will be showcasing the results of its successful implementations at one of the top US cable operators and leading hotel group, Best Western International. These campaigns showcase how recent innovations in the digital printing industry have set new standards in quality and affordability, and validate the fact that color and personalization added to bills and statements effectively enhances readability, and incites a response. InfoPrint’s team of TransPromo consultants will be on hand to discuss these implementations and the value of combining data analytics and customized content directly on monthly customer bills, using InfoPrint’s TransPromo calculator to demonstrate the return on investment the technique brings.
Other InfoPrint solutions on show include InfoPrint ProcessDirector (IPPD) with Mailroom Integrity and AFP editor for Windows, for basic Intelligent Mail(R) Barcode capability.
Meet the Experts Professional Services and Consulting Program
At OnDemand 2009, InfoPrint will host its popular “Meet the Experts” forum series. The Experts are members of InfoPrint’s Professional Services and Consulting teams who will be on hand at the show to help both existing and potential customers find a way to implement innovative industry techniques.
The forums at GraphExpo will focus on key solutions areas such as TransPromo with the workshop showcasing InfoPrint’s five-step approach to transitioning to this technique. This starts with an initial two-day workshop to clarify customers’ existing environment, requirements and initial roadmap. Subsequent steps include assessment time, a pilot phase, and then transition of applications to a TransPromo solution, with the final stage being implementation of enterprise level TransPromo.
For more information on the forum contact Ed Locher at InfoPrint, at elocher@us.ibm.com.

PersonalEffect e-Media is a server-based product allowing users to implement personalized response Web sites – called Response URLs™ (RURLs) – and e-mail messages within complete one-to-one cross-media campaigns. RURL landing sites support bi-directional communication with targeted recipients, helping advertisers gather more relevant and accurate information about specific individuals and use it immediately for more refined follow-up interaction.
“Print doesn’t stand alone anymore,” said Heidi Tolliver-Nigro, founder of Digital Printing Reports. “Printers who want to grow into a marketing services model need to be as proficient in social and electronic media as they are in print.”
PersonalEffect e-Media is fully-compatible with the entire suite of XMPie solutions, from desktop to server. It follows the same XMPie philosophy and architecture, making it easy to integrate PersonalEffect e-Media within an existing XMPie-based operation, specifically a desktop- or server-based print-focused operation.
XMPie’s RURL Wizard and templates and uProduce™ Marketing Console are included in PersonalEffect e-Media, as well as all XMPie cross-media solutions. With the RURL Wizard and templates, users can quickly generate fully-functional, customizable RURL sites and e-mail messages where, through templates, they have access to best-in-class cross-media technologies and marketing workflows. The uProduce Marketing Console allows users to track, analyze and refine live e-communication campaigns “on-the-fly” for optimal results and maximum return-on-investment.
PersonalEffect e-Media is built on PersonalEffect 4.6 with Adobe® CS4, the latest version of XMPie’s awarding-winning cross-media communications software, which is making its debut at On Demand. It is immediately available and will be shown in XMPie booth 2316 at the On Demand Conference and Exposition from March 31 – April 2, 2009 in Philadelphia. By separating the critical components, such as file systems and databases, from the working systems, XMPie has successfully leveraged the fault-tolerant cluster configuration with Microsoft clustering and load balancing technologies to develop a solution for even the most robust production environments. The uProduce Cluster Configuration ensures that if a system component fails, cross-media production will continue without downtime.

Data Recognition Corporation Presents Boosting Profit Margins with Web-Based Document Creation at On Demand 2009
VENTURA, CA – March 24, 2009 – Elixir Technologies Corporation, a leading developer of software for creating and managing high-value documents of all types, today announced that Data Recognition Corporation (DRC) will be presenting its implementation of the Elixir Correspondence System at On Demand 2009.
Data Recognition Corporation representatives Kimberly Caywood, IS Manager – Document Services Division and John Bandy, Senior Director Application Development will co-host this presentation detailing how DRC is using the Elixir Correspondence System for dynamic document generation for production print.
The session, Boosting Profit Margins with Web-Based Document Creation, speaks to the ROI for both the document stake holder and production operation.
Minnesota-based DRC provides a full suite of personalized document solutions from data processing to distribution, and the company’s customers needed a web component for collaboration and workflow. DRC selected the Elixir Correspondence System, an application that allows DRC to control the critical production aspects of the document life cycle, while giving customers the ability to control all content creation, changes, approvals, and proofing. The document editing process can be distributed to business users who make changes to the document in a text editing window and are allowed to make changes to selected areas on the document; areas which are defined within the document template.
For details on DRC’s session and other On Demand presentations please visit: http://www.ondemandexpo.com/ondemand/v42/index.cvn?id=10137

RSA's WebCRD & QDirect: The Best Get Better at ON DEMAND
Philadelphia, PA, March 23rd, 2009 - Rochester Software Associates, Inc. is returning to ON DEMAND on the heels of back-to-back Best of Show awards at the 2008 and 2007 ON DEMAND shows.
The latest version of WebCRD will be demonstrated, including WebCRD OnDemand, RSA's new Hosted ASP offering. Customers can now choose the best Web-to-Print solution and have the equipment maintained at RSA's Datacenter. Starting at $1,000/month, this affordable Software-as-a-Service option allows Print Centers to be up-and-running and accepting jobs fast. Of course, the On-Site version of WebCRD is still available to enterprises that prefer to keep their workflow in-house, out of concerns for security, bandwidth, or automation.
As an example of such automation, WebCRD now offers powerful Barcode Scanning capabilities for Production. Operators do not need to return to a computer to update the status of a job. Instead, they can scan the cover sheet of a job to "move" that job through different stages of Production. The result is fewer touches, as well as more accurate data for measuring and improving productivity.
In addition to new features, WebCRD now includes modules that used to be priced separately! Job Cost Estimating and Template Based Ordering are now standard, enabling price quotes and PDF Forms-based Variable Data jobs such as business cards. And for a limited time, SurePDF, RSA's genuine Adobe PDF Print Driver, is available at no charge as part of RSA's Print Stimulus Package released earlier this year! These pricing changes and promotions represent a $25,000 savings!
Starting at $19,995 including the server, print centers can easily afford the award-winning Web-to-Print solution that they might have thought was out of reach. And RSA's new ROI Tool demonstrates how quickly customers can see a return on their investment.
QDirect Dynamics builds on the same personalization engine found in WebCRD Dynamics, RSA's automated Web-to-Print Variable Data Printing solution. However, instead of a web interface, personalization can be performed in batch mode for TransPromo use. Transactional jobs are routed to QDirect, RSA's Enterprise Output Manager and based on business rules, variable text and images can be imposed for promotional purposes, without operator intervention.
QDirect Print Server, a new entry level version of QDirect Enterprise Output Manager, is now available. Starting at $9,995, the QDirect Print Server appliance enables organizations to better manage print from multiple sources and effectively distribute output to multiple printers. QDirect Print Server leverages the power of QDirect Enterprise Output Manager, but without enterprise features (legacy transform and Scan to Print Center™) that an organization might not need.
The QDirect Enterprise Output Manager is getting an upgrade as well. QDirect 3.8 offers user management to restrict what different operators are permitted to do, based on their login, which can be managed by a local database, or via corporate single sign on or LDAP. An audit log is available to track which users did what and when. Partitioning allows customers to segment jobs, origins, or destinations to create virtual views into QDirect for separate print sites or to segment confidential jobs from general jobs for security purposes. QDirect also expands printer status to include Paper Stock information and Paper Stock Levels. Status alerts can now be emailed (or sent to an email-text message service) to facilitate unattended operations. Last but not least, QDirect 3.8 allows for a simple Web based interface version that can be accessed from any standard browser and even mobile devices.
RSA's workflow solutions are available through RSA's partners and directly from RSA. Prices referenced are RSA's MSRP. For more information, visit www.rocsoft.com.

GMC Software Technology to Detail Case Studies at On Demand 2009
Jeffrey DeVoyd, Vice President of Product Marketing, to Present Highly Successful Transpromo Campaigns
March 17, 2009—Boston, Massachusetts and Appenzell, Switzerland — GMC Software Technology, the standard in personalized communication, today announced that Jeffrey DeVoyd, Vice President of Product Marketing, will present examples of highly successful transpromo case studies at the upcoming On Demand Conference and Exposition, March 30 through April 2, 2009 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In a track titled “Trans Meets Promo: A Real Examination of Successful Transpromo Implementation and Use,” DeVoyd will examine how print service provider Oniya Shapira, produced a highly-effective transpromo program for their customer Cal (Israel Credit Cards Ltd.) that included personalized marketing messages, high impact color graphics and third-party offers. The session will also review the award-winning Best Western International transpromo campaign, developed by both GMC and InfoPrint Solutions, using targeted, personalized imagery and messaging, designed to drive fall reservations as well as increase awareness for the world’s largest hotel chain’s co-branded credit card. The session takes place on Wednesday April 1, 2009, at 2:30 PM.
“During these challenging economic times, many companies are looking at how they can reduce costs, and increase profits but often find it increasingly difficult to fund new initiatives that do not have a direct impact on revenue ,” said Jeffrey DeVoyd. “I believe that well-crafted transpromo campaigns may be the answer, by changing the focus of transactional communications from cost to revenue generation, since transpromo response rates can outperform stand alone marketing campaigns, reduce the overall cost of production and postage as well as deliver self-funding business growth.”
Jeffrey DeVoyd is Vice President of Product Marketing for GMC Software Technology. Mr. DeVoyd joined GMC in 1997 with the establishment of the US subsidiary operation. During his tenure with GMC, he has held various management positions in technical support, pre-sales, development, product training and product management. Prior to GMC, Mr. DeVoyd provided printer hardware support and training for Nipson, USA. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rochester and has presented at numerous industry events including Gartner Print and Imaging Summit, Graphics of the Americas, On Demand, PODi and Xplor’s Global Conference and Exhibition.

Compart Presents Digital Co-existence Solutions at On Demand Expo 2009
In a tough economy, Compart solutions help users do more with less, without compromise
March 18, 2009 – BOSTON, MA – Compart, global leader in the development, sale and support of software solutions for document, print file, output management and ADF requirements, will be exhibiting their full suite of DocBridge™ software products at this year’s On Demand Expo. The event runs March 30 – April 2, 2009 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. The exposition represents the “best in show” of document management and digital planning/output management. Compart will be presenting its latest developments, notably DocBridge Pilot, in Booth # 1549.
“Our customers are all acutely affected by this challenging economy,” said Mark Maragni, Vice President of Sales for Compart North America, “and Compart brings the technology to manage whatever output they have with the people they have on staff. Products like DocBridge Pilot optimize existing documents and print file output for channel and production efficiency. The result is significantly reduced overall production costs and a platform that allows customers to do more with less. In these strained economic times, the ‘more with less and do it without compromise’ motto is the best survival tactic,” Maragni stated.
The DocBridge product family, designed to help clients manage documents on an individual document level and independent of source, output type or delivery channel, represents the essence of Compart’s Digital Co-existence strategy. DocBridge Pilot provides clients with intelligent piece-level control, while at the same time decoupling input streams for multi-channel output – email, central and distributed printing, mailing, web portals, archiving and call/distribution centers. A single output management tool that allows for the intelligent selection and rerouting of documents saves time by optimizing the workflow, reduces postage costs, and provides complete production control.
Also at On Demand, attendees can learn more about DocBridge Mill, a modular, multi-platform software solution used to convert and modify documents and print files. Like a dinner menu, a customer can select the most appropriate input and output modules, then the software performs multiple processes including combining or separating, modifying the content, indexing, converting, colorizing and routing. Overworked and understaffed service bureaus and other operations gain step-saving automation, along with the flexibility to use only what they need.
For output quality control, DocBridge Delta software is ideal for high-volume production jobs where files, which have been converted to other formats, can be analyzed for differences in formatting, fonts, alignment, page layout and content. The documents can be examined visually though a “light table” view to see any differences or through a detailed text listing at the object level. There is nothing more frustrating to a marketing manager or creative director – and to their print service providers – than to have their marketing collateral printed incorrectly. With DocBridge Delta, such quality control disasters are averted.
Finally, Compart will also be demonstrating its leading-edge print file viewer, DocBridge View. Fast and user-friendly, DocBridge View is a single universal print stream viewer that displays multiple documents of different formats, whether mixed-object or raster. The ability to view many different mixed-object formats at one time provides the customer with a single “wysiwyg” tool, making production control efficient and less time-consuming.

New Océ Production Printers Integrate EFI Fiery-based Workflow Solution to Maximize Customers' Productivity and Equipment Investment
Fiery Central Production Workflow Tools Increase Operator Efficiency and Reduce Waste
Philadelphia - ON DEMAND Expo - April 1, 2009 - EFI™ (Nasdaq: EFII), the world leader in customer focused digital printing innovation, and Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery solutions, today announced the integration of the EFI Fiery® Central solution with the new Océ line-up of Océ CS Tandem series of production color printers, including the Océ CS130T Pro, Océ CS195T Pro and Océ CS260T Pro models. EFI Fiery Central is a modular PDF-based production workflow solution with sophisticated make-ready, load balancing and automated prepress workflow capabilities allowing print operations to process more jobs in less time with less waste. The new Océ CS130T color cut sheet system with EFI Fiery Central is on display at the ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition in Océ booth 2300 through April 2 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
EFI Fiery Central enables print service providers in medium to high-volume print on demand environments, such as corporate reprographic departments (CRD), print for pay, and commercial printers, to increase operator efficiency, reduce waste, and decrease turn-around times. The ability to produce more jobs with fewer mistakes by automating common tasks maximizes Océ customers' printer investments. To address specific needs, and expand as workflow requirements change, EFI Fiery Central is offered in a modular structure including a centralized make ready station, load balancing and engine optimization, and workflow automation modules.
An ON DEMAND "Best of Show" winner in the color digital printing equipment category, the Océ CS Tandem platform unites multiple Océ CS665pro print engines with a centralized EFI Fiery Central server, sophisticated color management software, and validated color consistency to deliver a new level of color performance in one integrated system. Users can manage the group of Tandem printers from a single workstation, intelligently balancing workloads across engines-without sacrificing output quality. As a result, print providers looking to enter the production color market have a real alternative to offset presses and expensive, lower-quality color digital printers. The Océ CS family represents the first production color platform to be designated a FograCert Validation Printing System based on ISO 12647 part 7, a third-party validation that documents predictable, consistent and measurable quality.
"EFI Fiery Central provides a flexible solution with unique balancing capabilities that give print providers scalable color production output from 65 to 260 ppm," said Eric de Goeijen, vice president of marketing, Océ North America. "In addition to scalability, the need for consistent high-quality color is critical. The recent Fogra certification of the Fiery-driven Océ CS665, combined with EFI Fiery Central, provides a turnkey solution that is unmatched in the marketplace."
"We are excited about expanding our partnership with Océ and offering Océ customers EFI's powerful Fiery Central workflow solution to help them optimize resources and speed production for the fast turn-arounds that are customary in the print on demand, CRD and commercial print environments," said John Henze, vice president of marketing, Fiery division, EFI. "Helping customers increase efficiency and profits by automating repetitive tasks and intelligently load balancing jobs is more important than ever in today's challenging economy."
In addition to the load balancing and process automation tools offered with EFI Fiery Central, Variable Data Print (VDP) is another key advantage of the solution. Coupled with the industry-leading Fiery color digital print server, EFI Fiery Central is an open, flexible and scalable VDP solution which enables customers to easily develop customized marketing campaigns, regardless of their complexity. It supports multiple VDP formats, including the industry standard personalized print markup language (PPML) and other legacy proprietary languages. EFI Fiery Central readily integrates into existing workflows and provides centralized VDP job management to execute compelling personalized marketing programs.
EFI Fiery Central workflow solution is available now from EFI and Océ. The Oce CS130T is available immediately from Océ. For more information, please visit EFI at www.efi.com or call 800-875-7117, or Océ at www.oceusa.com or call 800-523-5444.

EFI Previews Enhanced Version of PrintSmith Site Job Submission and E-Commerce Module
User-Directed Enhancements Among New Features Available Soon
Philadelphia - ON DEMAND Expo - March 31, 2009 - EFI (Nasdaq: EFII), the world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, is debuting a major upgrade to its popular EFI PrintSmith Site®, the job submission and e-commerce add-on module to EFI PrintSmith™, at ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition booth 1943 (through April 2 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center). PrintSmith is a comprehensive, flexible and feature-rich print management information system and the market-leading solution for print and copy shops with integration to EFI's Fiery workflow as well as VUTEk® and Rastek™ inkjet printers. PrintSmith Site enables printers to offer online products and services with complete integration into the PrintSmith system for faster job turn-around and a more streamlined workflow, from the ordering user's desktop through to production.
Expected to be available in May, EFI PrintSmith Site 3.0 will have key enhancements that are a direct result of customer feedback from the community of more than 300 sites. "The PrintSmith user group at Connect 2008 provided some great input for this release, demonstrating the level at which our clients are using PrintSmith Site to enhance their businesses," said Ron Teller, EFI PrintSmith product manager. "In beta release now, the new site has an improved look-and-feel, it's faster, it's more integrated, and it has more process- and profit-focused features."
PrintSmith Site complements EFI Digital StoreFront® as the entry-level web to print offering for PrintSmith users. "It provides a way for our PrintSmith clients to add a web presence in a very cost effective way, then they can move to Digital StoreFront later on when they are ready to expand their web capabilities," added Teller.
"In today's market, PrintSmith Site is an essential tool in making our business profitable. Time equals money, and the time we save because of the integration into PrintSmith makes a difference to our bottom line," said Shelia Morgan, owner of Lipps Printing. "The most important value of PrintSmith Site is not how much money it makes for us, but how much money it saves us. The savings come from time NOT spent entering the order, typesetting, proofing, communicating back-and-forth with the customer, and then reprinting jobs that are incorrect."
Key upgrades and new features in version 3.0 will include:
- A new "CSR mode" that enables PrintSmith Site job entry by employees. This allows salespeople or CSRs to work with clients over the phone or at the counter utilizing the same input screens the client would see if they were online.
- Automated status updates to provide the print buyer with instantaneous and after-hour visibility into the current status of job production.
- Support of multiple shipping locations on each job, and walk-in accounts.

EFI Debuts Highest Performance Fiery Print Server for Xerox iGen4 at ON DEMAND Expo
Innovative Color Management Tools and Streamlined Workflows Ensure Xerox Print Providers Deliver Exceptional Results Every Time
PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar. 31, 2009-- EFI™ (Nasdaq:EFII), the world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, today unveiled its highest performance, next-generation Fiery® print server for the Xerox iGen4TM press with enhanced color management tools and in-line output profiling, among other new features, to deliver unparalleled color quality. The EX Print Server powered by Fiery driving the iGen4 press is on display in Xerox Corporation’s (NYSE:XRX) booth 2000 at ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition through April 2 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Together with the new Fiery server, the iGen4 press is one of the most productive and highest-quality cut-sheet digital color presses in the printing industry, creating offset and photo-quality images with consistent color from the first print to the last. It is the ideal press for producing high-end collateral, direct marketing and photo specialty products – print jobs that typically generate the most profits for print providers.
Achieving color quality and consistency remains one of the biggest challenge facing the printing industry, but with the new integrated and automated tools in the EX Print Server the guesswork is completely removed, resulting in professional quality color “out of the box” to deliver the desired output the first time and every time. The Xerox iGen4 is the first digital press to include an In Line Spectrophotometer (ILS). Integrated profile making using EFI’s award-winning Color Profiler Suite ensures accurate colors and maximum gamut utilization. Combined with Fiery Spot-On® for spot color management, profile making allows for dynamic PANTONE color adjustments so operators of all skill levels can ensure corporate colors are always a match.
“The Fiery-driven iGen4 press is another example of EFI and Xerox working together to deliver outstanding image quality, maximum speed, and unsurpassed reliability required by the most demanding print service providers,” said John Henze, vice president of marketing, Fiery Division, EFI. “In particular, by joining profile making tools with Fiery’s already powerful color management features, customers can achieve seamless and automated end-to-end color managed workflows.”
Gina Testa, vice president, Worldwide Graphic Communications Industry Business, Xerox, said: “In today’s challenging economic climate, print providers are looking for new ways to stay competitive, increase efficiency and boost profitability. The powerful combination of the Xerox iGen4 and the Fiery enables print providers to more easily handle higher profit and complex jobs, while ensuring customer satisfaction and repeat orders.”
The EX Print Server will be one of the first to ship with the new Fiery Command WorkStation 5 (CWS5). Fiery CWS5 unleashes the powerful features of Fiery servers by centralizing job management via an intuitive, flexible interface that produces jobs faster, dramatically reduces operator mistakes by up to 30 percent, decreases waste, and increases the overall profitability for the production printer. CWS5 simplifies complex jobs, providing exceptional results at every stage of a job at two to three times the throughput speed of most competitive printing systems to enable the print shop to deliver customer jobs more profitably.
With the Fiery-driven iGen4 press, it is easy to handle higher profit, complicated jobs that require document imposition and composition. The new Fiery SeeQuence Suite of make-ready software tools further simplifies and automates labor intensive document preparation activities via an intuitive interface. Fiery SeeQuence Impose and Fiery SeeQuence Compose work independently or in a tightly integrated workflow through CWS5, allowing operators of different skill levels to accurately set-up jobs and soft-proof. Both Fiery Command WorkStation 5 and the Fiery SeeQuence Suite are on display in the Xerox ON DEMAND booth.
In addition, the Fiery streamlines and speeds up communication with direct connectivity to the Xerox iGen4 to guarantee production at rated speeds. The Fiery open platform conforms to industry standards and integrates seamlessly into Xerox FreeFlow® workflows, enabling integration into pre-press and production processes and offering additional workflow automation tools to increase productivity even further.
EFI Fiery for the Xerox iGen4 press is expected to be available in Q2. More information is available at ON DEMAND in EFI booth 1943, in Xerox booth 2000, at www.efi.com and 800.875.7117.

EFI Raises the Standard for the Printing Experience With Next-Generation Fiery Command WorkStation
Job Management Solution Improves Productivity and Reduces Operator Errors By Up to 30 Percent; Fiery SeeQuence Suite Ensures Expert Make-Ready in Fewer Clicks
PHILADELPHIA, Mar 31, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- EFI(TM) (Nasdaq:EFII), the world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, today announced the most powerful job management solution ever, Fiery Command WorkStation® 5.0. Available free via download on www.efi.com/cws5 to any Fiery® user on System 6 or later, Fiery Command WorkStation 5 (CWS5) unleashes the powerful features of Fiery servers by centralizing job management via an intuitive, flexible interface that produces jobs faster, dramatically reduces operator mistakes by up to 30 percent, decreases waste, and increases the overall profitability for the production printer. The new software is on display at ON DEMAND Conference & Exposition in EFI's booth (#1943 through April 2 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center) as well as the partner booths of Canon USA, Konica Minolta and Xerox Corporation.
Fiery Command WorkStation is the recognized industry standard for production printing job management technology, serving as the window into the entire printing workflow. It is compatible with all Fiery-driven engines in the production print environment, offering the same printing experience for both Mac and PC users. CWS5's intuitive interface simplifies complex jobs, regardless of the operators' experience, providing exceptional results at every stage of a job at two to three times the throughput speed of most competitive printing systems to enable the print shop to deliver customer jobs more profitably.
"The latest generation of Fiery Command WorkStation delivers tangible benefits to our production print customers," said John Henze, vice president of marketing, Fiery division, EFI. "A typical brochure or booklet can be completed in significantly less time with a fraction of the waste that can occur from the 'print and review' approach often used by print operators. During these challenging economic times, EFI offers this powerful solution at no cost to our customers. With more than 16 million Fiery users worldwide, CWS5 delivers more productivity from existing equipment, shortens operator learning curves, reduces operator errors, and decreases waste, raising the profitability of each job while enabling a greener print environment."
With significant enhancements gained directly from customer input, CWS5 has been tailored to the unique needs of the production print market, from quick and commercial print providers to corporate reprographic departments, enabling them to produce quality documents reliably and expand services by easily handling higher profit, complex job requirements.
"We've counted on Fiery Command WorkStation as our job management solution for 10 years. The new look and more intuitive commands make the tool we've relied on most in our business even more productive than before," said Amy Moran, owner of Alphagraphics Chicago. "Our current employees quickly adapted to the new layout, and we anticipate less training time for new hires."
In addition to Fiery CWS5, EFI has introduced the Fiery SeeQuence Suite, an optional set of make-ready software tools, comprised of document composition and imposition functions that simplify and automate labor intensive document preparation tasks via an intuitive interface. Fiery SeeQuence Impose and Fiery SeeQuence Compose work independently or in a tightly integrated workflow through Fiery CWS, allowing operators to accurately set-up jobs and soft-proof.
Powerful Version 5 Enhancements
The new features of Fiery CWS5 are intuitive and flexible, continuing to make operators more productive. The state-of-the-art UI design is focused on the print operator experience and now boasts a streamlined workspace. "At-a-glance" information has also been added to the UI to display the status of the engine, jobs and consumables. Now users can access information about the resources available for a given job faster and more clearly, improving productivity by reducing unnecessary trips to the print engine to check status on paper and consumables.
Unique to Fiery, a new drag & drop functionality allows an operator to drag a file from their desktop directly to the print queue, greatly reducing the number of steps in the production workflow. Other productivity enhancing features include a customizable icon tool bar and dramatically improved job previews that enable the user to visualize the output at all of the document's assembly stages before printing, reducing mistakes and waste, and saving valuable time. With the new Fiery SeeQuence Suite option, the job preview feature honors ticketing-level decisions like complex imposition and make-ready, with a fast display and with a consistent user interface.
Solomon Dauber, iGen operator at Daily Digital Imaging in Pleasant Hill, Calif., said: "The new CWS5 is attractive and more intuitive, with a fluid look and functionality. The new drag & drop feature and the ability to preview files more accurately are awesome, and I expect both to be huge time and cost savers. The SeeQuence Suite enhancements are also very impressive - the intuitive interface allows me to easily control files in Impose and Compose, enabling fast, error-free job set-up."
Availability
The Fiery CWS5 software is expected to be available soon for download at no charge on www.efi.com/cws5. PrintSoft Introduces MailDirect Express™ for Easy-to-Launch Corporate Mailing Portals that Enable Fast, Efficient On-Demand Correspondence
Philadelphia, PA; March 31, 2009 – Today at the On Demand Expo, PrintSoft Americas (www.printsoft-usa.com) announced a new offering, MailDirect Express, which provides design-online capability and multi-channel output for on-demand business correspondence. The solution saves time for corporate employees, speeds messages to customers and ensures brand-control and compliance standards are met even for ad-hoc correspondence. With no template tool required, set-up is easy. And with robust back-end collection, sorting, and processing, print center efficiency is maximized. The solution is being introduced at On Demand 2009, the largest digital publishing event in North America, and will be demonstrated in the PrintSoft Booth, #2349.
“On-demand mailings occur in just about every organization from large corporations with distributed offices and branch locations, to universities, government offices and small business enterprises. Often these mailings are prepared and produced locally with little brand-control and minimal production efficiency,” says Dan Sheedy PrintSoft Americas President. “Our research shows that efficient correspondence automation is more of a concern than ever in the current economic climate and this solution brings tangible benefits that directly address these concerns.”
With MailDirect Express, business users can easily create new document designs within defined corporate style guidelines using an intuitive, interactive browser interface that lets them manipulate document elements directly on the page view. For print mailings, users can even specify finishing options and inserts. The back-end processing is extremely robust providing multi-channel output for email, fax and sms correspondence; aggregation of small print mailings into larger print runs with appropriate sorting based on job type and output requirements; as well as appropriate placement of addresses, postal barcodes, and OMR marks for finishing and inserts.
“Making it easy to set-up, easy to administer, and easy to use was key,” says Sheedy. “But that ease-of-use at the front end relies on powerful automation at the back end that makes these jobs profitable for the print center while taking the burden of small mailing production off of both corporate and print center employees.”
PrintSoft’s introduction of MailDirect Express at the On Demand Expo, March 31-April 2 in Philadelphia, will be the first public showing of the new service and demonstrations will show how corporate users and print centers can benefit by adding ad-hoc mailing portals to their correspondence management programs. MailDirect Express will be officially launched in July.

Standard Finishing Systems Announces On Demand Highlights
ANDOVER, MA, March 12, 2009 – Under the theme “Think Intelligent Automation,” Standard will showcase a broad range of highly automated post press, paper handling and inserting solutions at On Demand. “Intelligent Automation” springs from Horizon’s longstanding development philosophy, which combines broad technical finishing expertise with deep study and understanding of the fundamental steps required to produce professional-quality cut sheets, folded signatures, saddlestitched booklets, and perfect bound books with speed and efficiency.
Standard will show the recently introduced Standard Horizon BQ-270C single-clamp perfect binder. Designed for the short run POD and commercial print book markets, the BQ-270C single-clamp binder features a 10.4” intelligent color touchscreen control console and an ergonomically-situated digital caliper that measures book thickness and automatically transfers the settings to the binder for quick, automated changeover. The BQ-270C is designed for single-person production of up to 500 books per hour. The automated set-up process allows truly efficient single-edition POD book production.
“Our business isn’t just about equipment, it’s about helping printers save time and money in their post-press operations,” says David Reny, Executive Vice President, Standard Finishing Systems, Horizon’s exclusive North American distributor. “Best-in-class Horizon automation – such as on the new BQ-270C binder – lets us deliver productivity and labor-saving efficiency to digital print and conventional offset operations of every size.”
The Standard Horizon BQ-470 four-clamp binder, featuring interchangeable EVA / PUR adhesive tanks and unparalleled automation, now has two important new accessories. Operators can use the SI-470 digital caliper to measure book thickness and automatically transfer this data to the binder for automated set-up. The other accessory is the new PM-470 pre-melt tank, for operator convenience and longer runs between adhesive replenishment.
The recently released Standard Horizon AF-406T is a small-format automated 6-buckle folder with pile feed and suction head with an optional 6-buckle second unit that can be added straight or cross-wise, for sheets up to 15.7” x 25.6”. The Standard Hunkeler CS6-II rotary cutter with chip-out will be shown as part of a solution producing full-bleed trimmed color self mailers. The UW6 unwinder and high performance CS6-II cutter will be double-cutting sheets from a pre-printed roll. The sheets will then be folded into direct mailers on the in-line Standard Horizon AFC-566H automated signature folder.
The Standard Hunkeler Gen6 UW6 unwinder and RW6 rewinder will also be demonstrated with the Screen TruePress Jet520 full color variable printing system. The Truepress Jet520 prints up to 420 feet of paper per minute at high image resolution. Featuring in-the-field speed upgrades to 720 fpm, this roll-to-roll solution delivers constant web tension for uniformly tight, straight rolls and handles a wide range of paper stocks with ease. Consistent roll quality is essential to efficient downstream paper processing, assuring trouble-free inserting and smooth off-line finishing. This solution will be shown in Screen Booth # 1925.
Xerox will also feature the new Standard Horizon ColorWorks PRO in-line document finisher with the Xerox DocuColor 8000 digital color press, providing one-pass full-bleed trimming, scoring, stitching, folding, face-trimming and stacking in a compact, user-friendly design. The new new entry-level ColorWorks and full-featured ColorWorks PRO now connect to all Xerox DocuColor 5000, 7000 and 8000 models. FujiFilm will also show the Standard Horizon ColorWorks PRO with the Xerox DocuColor 8000 on their Booth # 2018.
The Standard KAS 465HS inserter will also be shown, handling envelopes from #10 up to 10"x13", with a maximum thickness of ½", inserting at speeds up to 6,000 envelopes per hour. Insert stations can handle a wide variety of material including single sheets, cards, reply envelopes, and booklets. All feeders are top load / bottom feed, so that they can be continuously loaded without stopping production.
