Dereli Graphics Finalizes Orders for 21 KODAK CTP Devices at drupa
Highlights clear trend towards digital technology in rapidly growing Turkish market
DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY, June 11 — In a move that highlights how important digital technology has become in the Turkish market, Dereli Graphics, Kodak’s Istanbul-based distributor finalized orders for 21 CTP devices at drupa 2008.
Dereli Graphics is a long established company, serving not only commercial printers but also packaging and digital printers in Turkey, and has been working together with Kodak for just one year.
“The breadth of the Kodak digital portfolio and the quality, reliability and consistency across the range that these devices bring to the market, has shown our Turkish customers the advantages of moving to digital,” comments Mr Ahmet Dereli, owner of Dereli Graphics. “We believe that this is just the beginning, and that many other Turkish printers will follow suit after the sale of this number of devices during the drupa exhibition.”
The twenty-one CTP devices that have been sold are a mixture of the KODAK MAGNUS 400 Platesetters; KODAK MAGNUS 800 Platesetters; a KODAK MAGNUS VLF Platesetter; KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS Thermal Platesetters, and a KODAK THERMOFLEX Wide Platesetter featuring the sleeve option.
The KODAK MAGNUS 400 Platesetter is a productive 4-page CTP device using Kodak’s Thermal Imaging Technology, delivering high throughput, efficient plate handling, and ease of use for commercial printers. It images 16 or 21 plates/hr. with optional advanced automation.
The MAGNUS 800 Platesetter is a B1 device which provides high-quality imaging using KODAK technology and produces up to 40 plates per hour. New engineering and software deliver greater performance and reduced downtime. The modular design allows for advanced automation with an autoloader with a single-cassette unit holding 100 plates or a multi-cassette unit that can hold up to 500 plates. A semi-automatic device is also available, featuring ContinuousLoad that allows for continuous platemaking.
The KODAK MAGNUS VLF QUANTUM Platesetter produces quality imaging with repeatability, reliability, improved functionality, and increased speed for large commercial and packaging printers. It is one of the fastest fully-automated VLF Platesetters on the market, capable of imaging 27 80-inch plates an hour. Featuring premium KODAK SQUARESPOT Thermal Imaging Technology with 10,000 dpi optical resolution, the VLF CTP device delivers the sharpness and consistency to enable high-linescreen or FM screening.
The KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS Thermal CTP Device comes in five speeds, ranging from 60 to more than 240 plates per hour to suit newspaper printing facilities of all sizes. It delivers fast, reliable imaging with a standard file format interface for newspaper production systems. It is available with semi-automatic or fully automated plate loading and unloading. The machine-to-machine accuracy of KODAK SQUARESPOT Thermal Imaging Heads, combined with the binary nature of thermal imaging, achieves consistent and repeatable halftone dot structures.
The KODAK THERMOFLEX Platesetters are available in Narrow, Mid, and Wide formats, and give printers and converters outstanding imaging quality and process control. All devices feature industry leading imaging systems, including KODAK HYPERFLEX Ready Imaging Technology for flexo, to deliver high impact, repeatable print results. In sleeve mode, the THERMOFLEX Wide Platesetter supports both seamless photopolymer sleeves as well as digital plate-on-sleeve imaging applications. The unique quick-change feature enables a single operator to switch the THERMOFLEX Device from sheet mode to sleeve mode in a matter of minutes, without the need for any auxiliary equipment.

UK’s Printhaus Orders KODAK MAGNUS 800 QUANTUM Platesetter at drupa
Printhaus takes workflow to the next level with latest versions of the KODAK PRINERGY Workflow System and KODAK INSITE Portal Products
DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY, June 7— Printhaus, a leading U.K. commercial printer, ordered a new KODAK MAGNUS 800 QUANTUM Platesetter at drupa 2008. The Northampton business that delivers everything from creative concepts to direct mail and fulfillment, also signed on to upgrade to KODAK PRINERGY Workflow System Version 4.0 with connections to KODAK INSITE Prepress Portal System to improve web communication and collaboration with customers.
“Printhaus promises our customers that we’ll stay ahead of the technology curve. These investments will further improve our productivity and help us meet even tighter turn around times,” said Kelly Harris, Managing Director, Printhaus. “The new PRINERGY System with connectivity to INSITE Software will keep us keep moving with our customers’ requirements to do more business over the Internet. We’ll be able to link with our existing MIS system, so we expect to automate many processes.”
The KODAK MAGNUS 800 QUANTUM Platesetter employs a new, advanced thermal head that generates double the laser power of earlier MAGNUS Platesetters. The new thermal head not only increases the speed of plate production, but also provides broader imaging latitude and higher stability in case of plate sensitivity variations. KODAK Platesetters utilize KODAK SQUARESPOT Imaging Technology to minimize the impact of routine prepress variations, and deliver stable and reliable plates that stay within tight print manufacturing tolerances.
The KODAK MAGNUS 800 QUANTUM Platesetter has an output capacity of up to 60 eight up plates per hour and uses KODAK STACCATO Screening for high quality color reproduction. Printhaus will also be deploying the KODAK Multi-Cassette Unit, which can hold up to 500 plates at a time. The company is looking forward to improved productivity, automation and imaging performance from this new installation.
For Printhaus, which is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2009, the MAGNUS 800 QUANTUM Platesetter and PRINERGY software purchases are the next step in a long partnership with Kodak. Printhaus was the site of the first U.K. commercial installation of the PRINERGY System in 2000 and has been making plates on KODAK Platesetters for years.
“We’ve got a long history with Kodak, so we’re looking forward to the reliability and consistency of Kodak service that we know comes with these investments,” Harris said.

MPG Impressions Places drupa Order for KODAK MAGNUS 800 Platesetter
DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY, June 6 — UK sheet-fed printer MPG Impressions has signed an order at drupa for a new KODAK MAGNUS 800 Platesetter along with an upgrade to its current KODAK INSITE Prepress Portal System and KODAK PRINERGY Workflow System, which will enable an extremely high level of workflow automation to be implemented at the Chessington site.
“We’ve had tremendous reliability from our existing KODAK Platesetter, which has output more than 350,000 plates during the last six years,” says managing director Mark Croucher. “We’ve also had first class service from Kodak, so it was the obvious choice for this latest investment. The KODAK PRINERGY Workflow System is already at the heart of MPG Impressions, and is regarded by many in the industry as the most reliable internal file format on the market. It drives not only our CTP facilities but our EPSON inkjet proofing equipment as well as our presses.
“With PRINERGY Workflow System Version 4.0, including Kodak’s digital connectivity software, we will be able to implement an even higher level of efficiency, while Kodak’s intelligent Rules Based Automation feature will allow us to easily achieve effective automation at every level. This will include sending work to the digital presses with greater efficiency and integrating the job details held on our OPTIMUS MIS to create a more effective overall prepress workflow. We already operate a KODAK MATCHPRINT Inkjet Proofing System and with our prepress, digital proofing, litho and digital printing facilities all accurately color calibrated, we are able to provide a very versatile print service to the benefit of customers.”
MPG Impressions is one of the largest independent litho and digital sheetfed printers in the UK. During the last two years it has been significantly expanding its customer base, which now includes corporate, commercial and design agency clients as well as directory, fine art and publications work. The company, which has gained ISO14001, FSC and PEFC accreditation, operates a comprehensive selection of multi-color B1 HEIDELBERG presses, including eight and ten-unit models.
“We operate in a sector where quality, productivity and reliability are taken as given and areas such as the environment and sustainability are major issues amongst today’s print buyers,” says Mark Croucher. “This is why technologies such as Kodak’s SQUARESPOT Thermal Imaging is so important, because it provides a level of consistent quality that reduces wastage during press makeready and ensures stability during the print run.”

First UK Sale of New KODAK GENERATION NEWS System is made at drupa 2008
UK’s Archant Print selects two thermal digital platestters to increase speed and throughput, and attain ability to print FM Screening using Staccato
DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY, June 5 — Kodak has announced the first UK customer for its new GENERATION NEWS System – Kodak’s new thermal computer to plate (CTP) solution. Norwich based media company Archant, the UK's largest independently-owned regional media business, placed the order for two Z Speed variants on Kodak’s booth at drupa - the world’s largest printing exhibition. The investment also comprises the powerful open standards workflow management system, KODAK NEWSMANAGER and KODAK PRINERGY EVO Software, a powerful PDF workflow management tool for high performance newspaper prepress, which enables a flexible, automated workflow from edition plan to plate production.
Archant, which already uses KODAK NEWSETTER Systems and KODAK THERMALNEWS GOLD Digital Plates, made the investment in the advanced GENERATION NEWS Systems in order to increase capacity and maximize throughput of its newly expanded facility.
Archant Print’s Managing Director Nick Schiller says, “Recent expansion of our print operation required increased capacity and redundancy, so we took the decision to strengthen our existing technology with Kodak’s new GENERATION NEWS Systems.”
The GENERATION NEWS Platesetter has multiple plate cassettes, enabling fast plate loading and unloading of multiple plate sizes. The system can load up to 1600 broadsheet plates or 800 panorama plates while running continuously with no operator intervention. Integrated plate size selection, slip sheet removal, and three point registration are all automated to eliminate errors.
“Archant was the first company in the UK to install Kodak’s NEWSETTER System and we are pleased to once again be the first to purchase Kodak’s next generation of thermal platesetter”, continues Schiller. “We have always been extremely impressed with thermal technology and this latest investment in Kodak’s breakthrough GENERATION NEWS System is set to further strengthen our capabilities as each platesetter will enable us to image 268 broadsheet plates per hour at 391mm width and at 1270 dpi.
“As a high-performance newspaper printer, it is also vital that our entire workflow is managed efficiently. The impressive attributes of KODAK NEWSMANAGER Software will afford us further new productivity enhancing benefits by automating and managing the production of plates, thereby delivering greater versatility and freeing up resources”, he adds.
The GENERATION NEWS Platesetter also features Kodak’s unique Squarespot Thermal Imaging Technology, which has been adopted from the commercial environment and provides consistent dot accuracy and tonal stability. This enables Archant to achieve up to 200 lpi and implement KODAK STACCATO Screening Technology.
This is set to deliver further benefits to Archant’s print operations by enabling higher screen rules; sharper linework; excellent reverse type and legibility. The Thermal technology minimizes early dot wear on the plate and eliminates variation found in visible light and UV systems.
“Now that ‘semi-commercial’ printing has become an unstoppable trend in future newspaper press investments, this type of solution will become invaluable”, says Jack Knadjian, Vice President Publishing Market Segment, Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group. “The GENERATION NEWS System will provide our customers with the quality and stability they require, without having to sacrifice the productivity and plate automation that are demanded for newspaper deadlines. As such, it offers a ‘no compromise solution’ that combines the best attributes of both visible light and thermal systems.”
The KODAK GENERATION NEWS Systems will be installed at Archant’s Norwich printing facility, which together with its Ipswich site, prints the majority of the group's newspaper titles and offers a contract print service. As a whole, the Archant Group employs 2600 people throughout England and has an annual turnover of £194 million.

DocBridge Pilot Highlighted at drupa
Compart will be a sponsor of the drupa Innovation Parc with a booth in the Document Management section (Stand 7.01/Hall 7) from the 29th of May until the 11th of June in Düsseldorf Germany. DocBridge Pilot will be highlighted, Compart’s flagship solution for postal and production optimization with multi-channel delivery capabilities.
Compart’s presence at this event marks the intersection of two key trends: First, drupa has recognized the growing importance of software in the processing of digital printing by dedicating a larger area than the 2004 drupa. As a result, the entire drupa Innovation Parc has been moved to the central exhibition hall (Hall 7). And secondly, Compart has recognized and leveraged this trend over the years by shifting its focus towards output management. DocBridge Pilot enables both the print service providers and print centers new planning and organizational control in their day to day production. No matter the run size, DocBridge Pilot can recognize print files and formatted output on a document level, then optimize, convert, process and post the output, securing a leadership position in the output management field.
As part of the output management focus, Compart is also represented at the PDF/A Competence Center and the AFP Consortium stands. The enables visitors to see the different ways Compart can enable efficient archival, enterprise output and full color workflow support throughout the Document Management Parc.
Pitney Bowes’ Emtex® Software Introduces Production Intelligence™ Architecture to Link Print and Mail for a More Efficient Mailstream Workflow
Integrated end-to-end solutions capture intelligence at every touch point, transforming business intelligence into real value
Kings Langley, UK, 20 May 2008 — Pitney Bowes Emtex Software, the leading provider of Output Management (OM) and Automated Document Factory (ADF) solutions, announces the new Production Intelligence architecture. Production Intelligence provides a new strategic architecture to integrate print and mail workflow to improve document production control, integrity and efficiency. It automatically gathers real-time data about every aspect of a print and mail operation and connects islands of information, enabling operations to schedule, control, track and manage jobs, resources, devices and operators. Print and mail operations can now use a single dashboard to control, manage and track production workflow and measure performance and enforce benchmarks for productivity, service level commitments and compliance requirements.
Until recently, even the most forward thinking print and mail operations attempted to tackle document production improvement initiatives as two separate departments, focused on collecting critical print and mail data to derive key performance indicators to maximize performance. However, most are often stopped short due to manually intensive data collection processes, lack of data consistency, and the need for internal IT assistance.
The Production Intelligence architecture is designed to expedite and facilitate efficiency and integrity across the production print and mail environment and to the enterprise for an optimized mailstream so business users can spend less time looking for information. The new platform integrates production print and mail environments by unifying diverse production control systems so every mail piece can be identified, tracked, routed across its lifecycle, from printing and inserting to reprinting, tracking and delivery. As a result, the collection, monitoring and tracking across both environments provides key stakeholders with critical job workload planning and modeling tools, job and resource forecasting and scheduling, SLA management, and end–to-end job and mail-piece tracking.
“As customer communications become more challenging, and as production processes get more complex, the Production Intelligence architecture unifies and automates business-critical processes and helps companies capture the business intelligence to accelerate performance and profits. Facilities can fine tune their workflow to unlock productivity and create a super-efficient mail stream,” said Pete D’Amato, Vice President of Global Marketing and Product Management
With the new architecture in place, operations can centralize scheduling, tracking and management of jobs, resources, devices and operators. A single dashboard provides a unified view of the full print and mail operation. The result is a simplified way to detect inefficiencies and errors. Operations can improve productivity, eliminate waste, achieve better resource utilization, grow capacity, increase profitability and reduce costs.
The new Production Intelligence architecture is available today.

Rich set of application technologies to accelerate production management and simplify job preparation
KINGS LANGLEY, UK, 6 May 2008 — Pitney Bowes Emtex Software, the leading provider of Output Management (OM) and Automated Document Factory (ADF) Management Solutions, expands its Production Intelligence™ architecture with Management Information System (MIS) Solutions for the transactional workflow environment. The first of many innovative featured-rich capabilities under the MIS Solutions offering as part of the new Production Intelligence architecture for the print-to-mail environment will be introduced inside the Pitney Bowes stand (Hall 4, Stand C23, Software Pavilion) at drupa 2008 - the world’s leading exhibition for the print media industry on May 29 - June 11, 2008 in Dusseldorf, Germany.
The new solutions under the MIS Solutions umbrella include the P/I Wizard, P/I Scheduler and P/I Job Profiler. Together, these new products set the stage for new levels of enterprise intelligence not previously possible for the high-volume transactional market. Print and mail operations will be better able to address their daily business challenges; from optimizing workflow management processes to simplifying job preparation, easing the migration from monochrome to color applications, support for TransPromo migration, accelerated process automation, intelligent tracking, production forecasting, planning and scheduling, to production analysis and reporting.
The P/I Wizard, an intuitive document-driven browser-based interface simplifies job preparation for color, TransPromo and other applications. Kodak Expands V-Series Inkjet Portfolio at drupa 2008 to Serve Mid Volume Data Centers
DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, Jan. 17-The latest expansion of the KODAK VERSAMARK V-Series Printing Systems portfolio brings higher resolution to Kodak's inkjet line and provides an affordable solution for the mid volume range of bill and statement producers.
The new KODAK VERSAMARK VL2000 Printing System targets data centers with volumes of more than 1 million images per month of transactional, promotional and TransPromo documents, such as billing, account statements and direct mail. It operates at maximum production capacity of 1,090 A4 (letter sized) impressions per minute.
Launching at drupa 2008, the VERSAMARK VL2000 Printing System employs drop-on-demand print technology with image resolution of 600 x 600 dpi, and eliminates the redundant process of printing full color shells for transactional statements and bills, reducing cost and production time.
The VERSAMARK VL2000 Printing System provides a cost effective solution for data center printers that serve their customers with short runs of high quality documents, as well as long run transaction and promotional materials. Low operational costs make this system particularly economical for applications like multipage financial statements, credit card bills and telecommunications invoices.

"As a scaleable solution provider, the VL2000 System will serve the current needs of mid volume data centers and Kodak will provide an easy path to the next level V series system as their volume requirements grow."
With roll to roll operation, the VERSAMARK VL2000 Printing System can print images as wide as 18.67 inches, with a web speed of 250 feet per minute. United States and Canada list price for a two-up simplex configuration is expected to be less than $1.60 million. US&C list price for a two-up duplex configuration is expected to be less than $2.95 million.
The system supports the most common transactional and promotional print streams and is backed by Kodak's color management expertise. The VERSAMARK VL2000 Printing System requires a low level of operator involvement due to advancements in the user interface and system design.
"Data center customers can choose the KODAK System that's right for their operation from the industry's most economical solutions for a wide variety of print applications that require full variable data capability, such as TransPromo communications," said Pat McGrew, Data Center and Transaction Segment Evangelist, Inkjet Printing Solutions, GCG.
