Scanning QR Codes is so simple, even a 2 yr old can do it!

By Joe Barber, Chief QR Officer at the CodeZQR division of Computer Output Print & Internet (COPI)

For Christmas my wife and I had gotten a gift for all three of our boys, Austin (6), Tyler (4), and Luke (2).  Being the QR Code nerd that I am, I thought it would be a great idea to have a scavenger hunt using QR Codes to dispense the clues at each location until the gift was found.  From my boy’s very first introduction to QR Codes they have thought it is the coolest thing to scan them and see messages pop up on the phone screen.  So much so that when I am traveling out of town we like to send QR Codes back and forth via email for the each other to read.

On Christmas for the last gift of the day I pulled a QR Code off of the Christmas tree and asked them to scan it to see what it said.  It was the first clue in the treasure hunt and from there they just ran anxiously around the house from clue to clue.  Even Luke, my 2 year old, got into the act of scanning QR Codes.

Given their ages I only made a few clues because I wasn’t sure how long the scavenger hunt would be able to keep their attention.  However, after they finally got to the gift and had a moment of excitement over it, all they wanted to do was go on scanning QR Codes.  So we took turns letting each of them rescan the original clues.

We videoed the whole thing which can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m08rU5ipX9o

This is a great testament to just how easy scanning QR Codes is and how easily they are embraced by the younger generations for whom technology is merely a fact of life.
